Pics of trucks in Primer Paint

Hey Guys

I'm considering painting my truck in primer style paint. Could anyone send pics of trucks in Primer (flat) paint?

Is this style paint easier to paint? I've never painted before.

Re: Pics of trucks in Primer Paint

I was watching some hot rod show on TV Sly Stallone had a truck built it was painted with a stain black paint . It looked really good. I'm thinking about painting mine like that.

Re: Pics of trucks in Primer Paint

primer will deteriorate as to where paint will not as fast. what you are refering to is a "suede" paint job. it's not terribly difficult, but let me advise you that you're not going to get a clean suede with rattle cans

Re: Pics of trucks in Primer Paint

Eastwood makes a paint can Ratrod flat black. Looks like primer but holds up like paint. I don't think primer is water proof.

Re: Pics of trucks in Primer Paint

Primer?? Well, here it is... I used rattle cans just so it's all one color...for now. Eventually it's gonna be a Slate Blue with an off-white cap. But if you're lookin' to go with paint with a flat finish, there are quite a few places that sell a kit for about $150-$200. Good luck!!!

Re: Pics of trucks in Primer Paint

I'm really looking for flat paint I guess. It would just look like primer. I know they make it, I just not sure what colors are available.

Re: Pics of trucks in Primer Paint

A 'flattening agent' can be added to any color or clear coat at the paint store.

Re: Pics of trucks in Primer Paint

Not a truck, but this is my 54 Chevy. I used PPG urethane base coat and mixed flattening agent into my clear coat. It is unbelievably durable and does not show scratches. It is also easy to keep clean. This method gives the suede finish but real paint durability.

Re: Pics of trucks in Primer Paint

Summit has a budget friendly set of paints that have a hot rod black listed...not sure if they offer a flattener. Could be picked up locally, like at Space Age.

Here is mine. It has basce coat clear coat with a flatting agent in the clear. It still looks like the day it was done. Its nice since I can wash it and wax it to protect it.

Re: Pics of trucks in Primer Paint

Here are a few shots of mine in different lighting conditions. The paint isn’t primer, it’s John Deere Blitz Black enamel. The finish is very durable and easy to clean. The same look can probably be achieved with Rustoleum or similar unhardened enamel, the trick is using acrylic enamel reducer in whatever temperature range (speed) and mix ratio is needed to provide the surface texture you’re after. It took me 7 different attempts to get the mix right for the finish I wanted.
