I'm a little late jumping on this thread, but here is an idea for the budget builder who likes to take stuff apart.

I have a friend with a '50 burb that rebuilt his gauges (to electric) using 70's ford truck gauges, he used the original housing.

The reason for the pinto gauges was the fact that they are low profile and fit nicely into that original housing, also many trucks, box trucks, and some mustangs have gauges that relax to the right.
