TH350 shift linkage

I installed my engine and trans yesterday and am now trying to figure out shift linkage. I did get a junk yard linkage with frame mount pivot bracket. The actual shift rod was too short so I welded on about 4 more inches of rod. It doesn't want to completely go to the park position or its better to say that it doesn't want to stay in the park position. My shop manual covers Power Glide and heavier automatics so actually not much help. This is a 350 - 350 install. Any help or on-line manual reference appreciated.
