Lower Ball joints

Can someone give me some advice about the deal with the lower ball joints upgrade? If I remember correctly someone said that you can get lower ball joints from a newer style truck or something like that. reason I ask is because I have my truck completely apart and have to replace the lower ball joints and the uppers. I already have all of them off. I want to buy whatever is what you fellows are using or have used....
  • Name brand
  • Part number if possible
  • Where to buy them...

Thanks......

Re: Lower Ball joints

I believe that using the 73 and later ball joints allowed the use of the later style spindle and discs. It would seem to me that if you just want new ball joints, stick with the original type joints. I bought mine from the Truck Shop in Orange, CA.

Re: Lower Ball joints

I just bought new ones and the part number for 72 or 73 was the same. They had the two grades to choose from but I couldn't see any difference. One was made in China I guess.

Re: Lower Ball joints

You will want to get the correct ball joint for the type spindles you have. If you got '73-87 spindles, use those year ball joints. If you got spindles that were for '63-'70, then you will need those years. As for '71-'72 the lowers are the same as the '73+ but the uppers are those years only.

I used Moog parts on my current '68 but have used TRW in the past. NAPA has their own line (higher end line) that look really nice I might try them on a future build.
