Insurance for Non-Operating Project Trucks??
I was thinking the other day....that I'm getting a whole lot of money tied up in my build and I probably should have the thing insured...Now, like a lot of project-builds it's not street worthy and won't be for quite some time....
So, I guess I'm wondering if anyone has been able to insure their "Work in Progress" non-driving project truck? Would Haggerty or Grundy even insure something that is not being driven and or is not even registered?..... Any insight would be appreciated! Dan

It is also covered under your home owners insurance as long as its on the premises IE your garage. Oh and keep your receipts for proof just in case.

Your best bet is to get hagerty, which she writes for. They will insure a project You have to keep updating, your progress and keep all your receipts.

Re: Insurance for Non-Operating Project Trucks??
I was a renter for years, and my renters insurance covered my stuff.
Though to avoid all the DMV hassle here in SoCal, I decided to keep my truck insured with liability coverage. This let me keep the registration current, and covered me in case the darn thing rolled out of the garage and hit the car accross the street.

I guess I better make a call to Grundy and get it insured....It getting stolen would be my biggest fear....I would guesss though that I would not need Liability...just Comprehensive, since the car will not be moving.....but what about if its being trailered...hmm....I better call!

Re: Insurance for Non-Operating Project Trucks??
rackman,
i was working on mine for 5 years & all i did was just show my auto insurance agent the reciepts & we both agreed on a "dollar amount" (about once a year we "revised" it) & it was set. you can ask your agent & they will be up front with you. i did not feel like it was too much for what i had (have) in it. good luck!! |

Re: Insurance for Non-Operating Project Trucks??
Well, you just need to read the fine print, I work for an insurance company. And i hope that none of your projects, builds, finished projects are insured with regular automobile insurance. Now, each state controls what can and can not be done by the insurance companys. Your best bet is to go set down with an independent agent that writes for a collector car type insurance company. If you build is completed i would make sure that i had a "STATED AMOUNT POLICY". This means that your vehicle will be covered for an amount that you STATED in your policy. Lord help you if you get hit by someone else. I would always carry full coverage. In case that happens. Yes, you can sue but why go thur the headache of trying your patience and the insurances companys pocket book. I dont sell insurance but i'm an adjuster and i have several different copies of LMC in my company car for just those occassions. I have had several people involved in accidents and i tried my BEST to save their vehicle from becoming a total loss. Anyhow, go with the a company that has a long tract record.
