What did you get done? (8-16-09)

Ordered a set of tires for my 20" Boss 338's while TireRack.com had them on sale. Nothing else truck related.

In Ken's absence,... what did you get done?

swapped out my leaky valve covers for a pair of eddy signature series to match the air cleaner and a routine oil change to top it off.

Re: What did you get done? (8-16-09)

put in new spark plugs, this was a pain with my headers so i had to take off the driverside header to get to the third plug back.

I also attempted to tune my carb and take apart my dash. I need to work on tuning the carb more tomorrow.

I came home from a week long trip in South fork, Colorado at 4 am today saw a lot of beautiful scenery, the weather was nice low 40s and the hottest day was 90 with low humidity

The "Heap" went into the paint booth Saturday. The cab and chassis used one booth, the bed occupied another. I'll post some pictures when she's back together, complete.

Here's a couple teaser shots, the black coating on the bed walls is a product SEM sells called "Chip Guard". Chip Guard is applied prior to paint and gives a texture like that found along the rockers on some vehicles.

Re: What did you get done? (8-16-09)

is this a thread to tell what you have done recently?
if so...

i stripped the entire cab of my 1978 k10,thourougly washed it,took everythingin the dash apart and washed it and painted everything,re-assembled it,new glove box and new 4x4 shifter knob new valve cover seals, new fan belt, radiator flush and oil change and new oil filter, all new spark plugs, tuned the engine, started on the body lift, got a new seat cover,re-did the door panels, carpet etc, degreased the entire under carrage, new valve cover wing nuts, new fuel lines, electric fuel pump, new battery, and new air filter, took the entire front grill/clip apart and polished it all,re-installed it,took the rear overload springs out,and installed them in a front giving me a 5.8 inch suspension lift,re-did a ton of wiring in the cab, started making a subwoofer box for behind the seat, hooked the a/c up,all new duct under the dash and got the compressor on,painted the kick panels same as dash and door panels,

then i worked on the 1967 c10's 327,got the new thumpy cam, gear drive, lifters, pushrods, and oil pan and timing cover all together on it,ready for the intake to go back on,and ready for the hei distributor and coil.

as you can see-i get VERY bored during the day and had nothing to do haha!

this was all done in...under 2 days i believe

dmartin1,... every week in the "73-87 section", there is a thread on Sunday night,... letting everyone post their weekends progress on their truck projects. Hopefully this will motivate members to "keep making progrss". Hope to see you next weekend, or sooner.

Re: What did you get done? (8-16-09)

Went to install the brake parts that came this week, only to find that nothing comes with new mounting bolts. Dang it!
Instead, built a set of heavy-duty saw horses and used them plus a pair of 2x10's to "float" the bed over the frame of the truck.
Now there's enough room under there to cut & drill for the C-notch. Maybe get to that next week.

Re: What did you get done? (8-16-09)

lolife99- Thanks for picking up the slack. I assumed that Bob had posted, but never confirmed. I went to a family function Sunday afternoon, and didn't get back on here to check.

I worked this weekend and my 77 is still in Dallas, so nothing new there.

I put my 06 CC in the shop Friday for a to replace all the worn out front suspension components. It's hard to believe it has 60k on it and the front suspension was shot.

Saturday I worked, but Sunday I got the inside of my 06 cleaned out and detailed. It had been a while since I pulled all of my work supplies out and cleaned it up. It's nice and fresh once again.

Re: What did you get done? (8-16-09)

Not a good week for the 74. Lost a tire just before the weekend & it took out the pass bedside w/it. Folded the lower portion of the bedside (behind the wheel) 90°; broke the fender strut on the front side & tore up the lip + the trim.

Sat, on our way home from Ft.Worth, the rear-end started howling pretty good. We stopped & sure enough, the rear end was low on fluid. I filled it @ the local Weatherford WalMart & hoped for the best. We made it home but the damage was done..... Now I'm pricing parts for the rear. Going to go ahead & do some 3.73's & maybe a posi if I can find one @ a decent price.

Daaang Scoti, that sux. Find you a Burb with a donor rear and rebuild it. I got my last set of 3.73's from Summit. They had the best price on Richmond gears, but that was a few years ago.

Re: What did you get done? (8-16-09)

I got quiet a bit done on mine this weekend. I re-installed the old spindles with 3in drop springs, finished dropping the rear of the truck (hangers and shackles). Finished the brakes and squared the front end. Took it to NTB and got it aligned and put some new tires on it. 255-60-15ft/275-60-15 on the rear. I did all the work on Sat. It took them about 5 hrs Sunday to align it. Their machine didn’t have the specs for a 78 lol. The next step I have to do is replace the new shocks on the front. I the guy at 4wheelparts said that they were good for a 2 and a 3 in drop but he was wrong. They only have a bout an inch of down travel before they bottom out. I also have to cut the bottom of the bed. I didn’t read the instructions and after I was done noticed that with any real weight in the bed the springs will hit the bed rails. I don’t really want to cut it, but don’t see any other way. Anyways, it was a good weekend for me. Soon it’ll be time to start on the interior.

Re: What did you get done? (8-16-09)

I finished up replacing the door/vent window rubber on the passenger side...PITA, but it's done and the wind noise is now very tolerable. I then washed and waxed "Bob" and going to try and get ready to lower "him" and install all the new front brakes & finally a tune up.

BTW...Scoti, hate to hear about your luck!!!

Re: What did you get done? (8-16-09)

My truck made its first venture out of the garage on Saturday to get inspected. Passed easy, then I left it over at my dad's for some stripes to be put on. Will post some pics later, but its still not 100% done, just couldn't let it sit in the garage anymore. The snow and salt will be here before I know it, so it will get a few more things then...

Damn Scoti, I did that once in a burn out competition at the then titled Car Craft Summer Cruise in my '73...passenmger side as well.

I screwed up my bed floor, lower rear rocker, lower rear front rocker, wheel well lip, fender strut...and found out later the posi went as well.

Re: What did you get done? (8-16-09)

Sorry to hear about that Scoti. That sucks big time.

My weekend consisted of work and working out the details of the hit/run on my truck on Thursday. Video goes to Sac PD soon and hopefully an arrest shortly there after.

Going to the body shop with a case of beer and a sad face to see what my buddies can do for me.

You know, if your truck is going to be out of commission and you need a doner truck for you system I'll be able to help you out.

Re: What did you get done? (8-16-09)

Went over to see hart rob on Saturday, took him for a ride in my truck, finally laid some black marks on some deserted neighborhood next to his, then we jumped in his blown 67 and tried to see who could lay the longest marks...I think I won, he has drag radials.
We both agreed on the fun factor.
Then my hood cable "died" on me, ended up doing some minor damage to my hood, nothing big, just really bothers me, a dent and minor bowing. Maybe a cowl hood when it comes time for paint?

hehe, thanks for the offer, but the truck still drives just fine. While the body is being given some love I'll be driving dad's '06 GMC which has a nice little system in it too.
