You'd have to bag the front. You have to be able to turn the front tires. You can use a 3" front spring for a 5.5" drop,... but anything lower will require bags and removeal of the inner fenders.

Re: body drop. is it worth it? help?
a bodydrop is anything but easy..
only if you have some serious fab skills should this be attempted. or if time is no problem for you on the truck and you have a few friends that have done it before should you try it. its better to have ppl in your area that have done it to help you, its easier to show somebody in person rather than learn how to on the internet

Yes, you can get it lower. No, it won't be cheap or easy.

Re: body drop. is it worth it? help?
you could do something like justin26 said.. although it wont be easy
and i would say you could only get an inch or so before the frame and body hit. so it probbaly wouldnt be worth the time and effort in my opinion. youi and i are in the same boat as far as how low we want our trucks. I want my truck lower but cant beacause i want to keep the stock fenderwells. so you will have to suck it up and bodydrop it or bag it... or just come to a comprimise with how low your truck is now and get used to it like i did. you can only static drop these truck so far before your wheels start to rub the fenderwells, if your not happy and want to go lower then you need to start cutting. right now your at a pont where if you want to go lower your going to get into some heavy modifications.

Re: body drop. is it worth it? help?
Yes it can be Z'ed, but it seems you are asking what can "you do". Since you are asking these questions I have taken it that you aren't capable of doing the work yourself.
With that in mind, you will need to find someone "com potent" that can Z your frame. I personally do not recommend this option because you are "cutting your frame" off and it requires someone that knows what they are doing to accomplish it correctly. To often I have seen backyard hacks try to Z a frame and the results are inadequate and often times unsafe. With that said, my suggestion would be to consider bagging it. This will take you lower and allow adjust ability in your ride height.

Re: body drop. is it worth it? help?
doing a z is alittle harder than shorthening a frame IMO.. you run into alot more issues with steering and trans to body clearance. engine to hood clearance depending on how tall of a manifold you have, radiator hose routing.
option=YES, easy=NO I dont mean to sound mean or discouraging in any way, but judging by the way your asking questions you are new to this kind of stuff. like i said before to go lower you need to start cutting, and if thats what you want to do i woulod find somebody local who is experienced to help you.

Re: body drop. is it worth it? help?
bag that thing!! if you lower the mounts and the body rest on the frame, wouldnt that be rough, or the body mount bushings dont make that big of a difference being on or off?

but i believe the gains would be minimal and not worth the time to do it

Re: body drop. is it worth it? help?
ah alright, now that makes sense lol. are you wanting to do that without actually raising the floorbed (which is what a body drop is)? or you trying to re weld the body mounts lower to rest the body on the frame? I don't think you would gain that much more, there isn't a whole lot of room in between there. cutting off the mounts would prob. be the most time consuming part of the whole thing

but yes they are not wanting to cut the floor... and you would probably only gain an inch at best on the cab.. and then you have to consider that the bed is almost already sittin on the frame. so to make it line up with the inch of drop the cab has now, you would have to cut the bedfloor just as you would if you were doing a body drop

Re: body drop. is it worth it? help?
BAG IT!
You will get another inch, by welding the mounts lower. Which will lay the pinch weld very close to the ground. Read on this link. This is Porterbuilts thread on the Body Drop. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=234118 |
