What did you get done? 08/30/09

I spent the week fighting a stomach virus so I played catch up all week at work. After a long Friday, I was worn out and finally had a chance to crash. I had hoped to get some work done on my 77 Saturday but work kept me busy once again.

I did find time Saturday morning, and again on Sunday morning to work on my Ridetech article. Take a look at the latest edition. LINK

This evening I finally had a chance to pull the 77 out for the first time since I brought it home. I spent some time under it admiring the new Ridetech set up, and double (triple) checking all the nuts and bolts. As the sun started to sink, the road called, and I had to answer.

I spent some time playing with pressure settings, and adjusting ride height until I felt it was time to go in. The brakes are still needing attention, so I didn't want to press my luck.

What did you get done?

Re: What did you get done? 08/30/09

Not a whole lot truck related. I pulled off my stock aluminum polished center caps, and just painted the rest of the wheel black. They are going to stay that way until I get new rims/tires.

17's are the plan.

Ken, nice work on the article. I don't recall seeing anything previous about them so what's up w/the brakes?

I worked on my newest project chassis on Fri night & the better part of Saturday. My buddy Matt came out & we stripped it down to the bare minimum so we could flip it over thus allowing me to finish welding in the home-made c-sections. I got that done, cleaned everything up w/some 60-grit & we put it back on the chassis 'jig' again. We went ahead & re-installed all of the rear suspension items until I get my latest package from Mr. Porter. I also spent a bunch of last night (early this morning actually ) researching cooling systems, electric fans, & their controllers.

With my recent tire related issues on the 74, it brought to my attention a couple of items that needed attention under the truck. So today, I ground a little more off my lower a-arms (I needed about another .250") so that the wheels & weights clear the arms from lock to lock (15" wheels & 3" B.Tech spindles). Next was one of my rear shock relocators had a bolt missing so I got that re-fastened. I also noticed that on my home-made AOL set-up, the upper bag shoulder was coming way too close to the inner bed tub lip under the floor. A quick 5-mins w/a cresent wrench had the lip re-shaped 90° out so there's no possibility of the rubber contacting the metal from that area.

Once I got that done, I went for a drive around the neighborhood to confirm everything was good to go.

Re: What did you get done? 08/30/09

I put Project NO-LIFE in my separate garage for winter hibernation. (for now)

The '86 swb of mine will soon be rolled back to my "work bay" in my basement garage,... so I can start the front Dropmember install.
Plans are to pull the tired engine/trans and install the front Dropmember, steering linkage, and all fuel and brake lines, (and stainless "air ride" hard lines).
Then blow it apart for frame painting or powdercoating.

I have too many projects,...
and none of them done.

Not sure what is wrong with the brakes. Roger replaced the leaking wheel cylinder and they power bled the system. I noticed that I have a very soft pedal, then it goes to manual mode. Not sure, but maybe my booster is giving up.

New system... It's all hooked up, but I'm still making a new center console and recovering my dash. Hopefully next weekend I'll be getting the paint!

Re: What did you get done? 08/30/09

I went on a road trip with my dad on Saturday to get a 90 burb front end he found on Craigslist. Later that afternoo we bought a complete 90 GMC burb on the way to dinner. I spent Sunday buying and assembling furniture for my 2nd child (set to arrive in Jan). Overall a great weekend.

Re: What did you get done? 08/30/09

I built my exhaust on Friday night. Wife & kids were out of town, so I got it done. And, for those of you that have not been around a truck with 1 1/2 duals, it sucked. But now it is much better. Went to 2.5" pipe, true duals, flowtech raptor mufflers, and out in front of the rear tires through a nice set of stainless tips. Took about 2 1/2 hours total to remove the old exhaust; take my hitch off (not real useful anymore); layout, fit, and weld the new pipes all in place.

Also was looking in Truckin' with my 3 year old daughter. All of a sudden she noticed a Chevy Express van that is laid out. And she told me "Dad, that van's a REAL truck! Real trucks wear bowties." I was so proud, I told her that weeks ago and it never came out again till today. She said it about a van but oh well.

I'm sure gonna try to have him ready. Might not be 100%, but I hope to be able to drive him to the bbq.

Anything in particular the charity needs?

Been getting gravel with the old 87 3/4 ton. Trailer is made from an 76 or so 3/4 with full floating 14bolt rear end. Most gravel was around 7000 lbs, both in truck and trailer. Probably a bit much, but she made the 20 mile trip a could times. Also been busy working a 6" bds lift on a buddies 07 dodge ram.
