Re: What did you get done? 08/30/09
Pulled the bed and added a receiver hitch, pulled the passenger gas tank to find some nasty OLD fuel that had eaten away the pump, sending unit, and the baffle inside the tank, and installed my home made flip bracket onto the '87/'96 rearend assembly. Started on the front suspension, but the sky began falling and didn't quit until late yesterday so I can only hope to get most of it done this evening!

Re: What did you get done? 08/30/09
I performed open heart surgery on my 78 K20.
Yanked the engine, tore it down, cleaned it all up, replaced the cam, timing set, oil pump drive shaft, rear main, installed silicone valve stem seals & better valve springs, Performer RPM intake upgrade, resurfaced flywheel, rollerized pilot bearing, 12" clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing. Found some sweet ribbed steel perimeter bolt valve covers on an 86 Z/28 a while ago and installed them too. The truck only has 71,200 miles on it so the cylinder walls & bearings looked great. No need to do any work there yet. It just leaked like a pig from all the sitting around it did to accumulate so few miles so the clutch was slipping from all the oil it was seeing. There was a 1/4" of baked on oil on the inside & outside of the bell housing that took forever to clean off. It had never come apart before so everything was very stubborn. I could do this job with my eyes closed on my Camaro in half the time but this sucker was a bear to get apart. I have the completed long block back into the truck but haven't had time to finish cleaning up the accessories and I still need to modify the exhaust system to work with the recycled headers off my old 67 C-10. The headers fit like a glove and only need one collector flange clocked and moved back about an inch to clear the front driveshaft. I was anticipating major surgery to get them in place. A few more hours of clean up and repainting of all the accessories and she will be back on the road with about 330-340 HP. I have run this exact cam, heads & intake together before in my 66 Elky and it works very well. It made 286 HP to the rear wheels in the Elky. Just about right for a daily driver work truck. Right about the same as my 98 Z/28 made. If anybody wants a write up on any part of this I took plenty of picture so I can write something up at any time. |

Re: What did you get done? 08/30/09
Was out of town for a wedding. But today I started moving parts from the garage to the storage shed. Started with the C/K and 6.2 diesel parts. THen noticed the 87 6.2 was peeing on the ground, so pulled out the water pump the PO left me. While I'm in there I'm going to replace almost all the fuel system blus the broken crank pulley. Ought to be fun!

Re: What did you get done? 08/30/09
I just had a new master cylinder leak past the seal and suck air from the piston area.
I thought the booster had failed too but when I pulled the master off it dumped fluid everywhere. The replacement master fixed the problem. |

Re: What did you get done? 08/30/09
Drove my truck to work today...about 35 miles each way. And about 2 blocks from work heard a rattle on the right side. Got out at work and checked it out, I guess one of my new exhaust hangers broke. Dang it! I guess that is what I get for wanting to drive it to work.

Re: What did you get done? 08/30/09
After I got home from work tonight, I had used about a half tank to go to work and back. 75 miles or so on half a tank...not too bad.

Re: What did you get done? 08/30/09
I just went and bought a new truck its not a square body but it is a silverado (a 01) pretty cool my first new truck i've been driving my square body daily forever, but ever since the engine broke on it i needed something else to get me to work (other than my moms car)
Dont worry im still keeping the c10 just rebuilding the engine its going to be better than ever

I started getting my Jimmy ready for paint and bodywork.Got all the exterior trim pulled off.I also pulled the door panels off and found $6 in change.I'm always happy when I find money no matter how much or how little it is.

i got nothing truck related done this weekend. but i did get $250 worth of groceries, narrowly avoided my wife getting another kitten, got my pre-approved letter from the bank so the mrs and i can get a house, and went to the firearms show in mt vernon. the mrs got a 22lr/22mag revolver and i traded my taurus pt92(the shiney version) for a ruger p94 40 cal. i need to get hot and heavy on the 305 for my 80.
