73-78 doors directly interchangeable with 79-91

I've read. The door width at the style line of the 73-78 OEM GM doors is 42". This individual also stated that all Aftermarket doors and the OEM 79-91 doors are 1/4" narrower measuring in at 43 3/4".

Is this accurate or BS?

The only difference I've heard about with the earlier doors is that they don't have provisions for power stuff.

Externally the doors are all the same. Internally the doors run 73-76 then 77-91. They will all fit, the early dors don't have provision for power windows. The door panel area is different too.

This is the second time I have heard the 1/4" difference thing...We should have some of the 73-76 guys measure their doors to see if this is true (my doors are 77+...I can measure those).

But long story short, the doors are interchangable as far as bolting them on...just remember the guts and panels changed a little.

I'll measure the ones on the 75 tonight. I just got a set of 74 doors last weekend too. I'll measure those to start some sort of average.

Are we measuring the style line right under the door handle?

I would think that would be easiest and most accurate.

41 3/4" on my '76 doors I am pretty sure they are OEM. I also have a few other sets I will check in the 78+ range. I plan to replace the doors on my truck with a set from an '86 Blazer.

My rusty 76 OEM door is 41 3/4" as well. My guess is that the measurements on the 78+ doors will be the same as all the others.

Thanks
