Smile New guy with a 66 chevy and questions

I just got my Dad's 66 Chevy stepside which was originally bought by my Grandpa in 1969. The original engine blew a week after my Grandpa bought it and GM replaced it with a new one cuz it was still under warranty. I uploaded some pics I took this morning at this website:

I would like to know what type of engine it has so I took some pics of some #'s on the side of the block. Hopefully somebody can help.

Immediate plans for the truck include:
  1. Get the seatbelts replaced
  2. Get a stock mirror for the driver's side
  3. Replace drum brakes with disc brakes (5 lug)
  4. New wheels and tires
  5. Clean, Clean, Clean cuz it's dirty!!!

Any help in these catagories would be greatly appreciated, like where to find the best deals, etc...

Thanks for your help!
Jeff

Nice looking truck and having family history. You might want to check out the following links to determine more information about your engine:

And welcome to the forum

That's cool that you're family has kept this truck in the family all these years. It looks like it has been well taken care of as it appears to be in good condition.

I can't say for sure what engine you have, but it looks to me to be either a 230 or a 250. As for where to get your 5 lug upgrade parts, check with your local wrecking yards, and also craigslist. What you're looking for is a '73-'87 C10. A '71 or '72 will work as well, but the ball joints are more $$, but the rear differentials are a direct bolt in. It is usually better if you can find a complete truck for a good price. That way you have the major parts you need as well as all the little things you don't realize you need until you are in the middle of the installation. When it comes to the power steering and brakes let me know, I can set you up with the brackets for those.
