Starting issue 85 305

I have a starting issue. I have had as long as I have known this truck. It used to belong to my father in law. If the truck set for a week the carb needs to be refilled. Before it starts. I can't believe that the bowls should dry out in a weeks time. I had the carb rebuilt a year ago and that did not change a thing. It is a 85 305 with the stock carb. When I had it rebuilt I asked them to check it they said it looked ok. I also had the fuel pump replaced as it was getting weak. This did not affect it either. Anyone else run into this?

Stock quadrajet carb I assume? the problem is in the design of the carb and quite well known by anyone who knows them..

when rochester drilled the passages in the carb body they seal them with whats called well plugs, if you flip it over and pull the carb throttle blade plate off the bottom of the carb you will see 4 raised bumps , these leak fuel down into the intake when the truck sits draining the fuel bowl , almost all leak and almost all people seal them over with epoxy like JB weld , ...


they are lead plugs and eventually get loose , rochester knew about the problem , even gm when rebuilding the carb would epoxy them...

pick up a throttle plate gasket from somewhere like napa unscrew the 3 screws holding it on clean the bumps off really well brake cleaner works good ,
seal them with epoxy and let it dry for at least a full day and put it back together....search on google quadrajet well plugs for more info
