Re: '82 Duramax diesel conversion

I've had buyers remorse a few times after the $6000+ initial motor/trans/transfercase investment.

Then I had to buy the $3000 Suncoast converter/transmission kit so it will handle the 500rwhp tune I have for it.

At least I only things I still have to buy are tires, wheel, interior, stereo, rearends & driveshaft....

Re: '82 Duramax diesel conversion

There is considerable interference with the floor.

I had to do a lot of engine/trans alignment as well as a small body lift to keep the body off the rear of the trans. I refuse to cut the body as I want to keep the original look... hoping it looks like a factory install when it is done.

Re: '82 Duramax diesel conversion

Did you have to drop the driveline down to clear? I have heard of several people start this and then stop because of fitment.

Re: '82 Duramax diesel conversion

Had to build a new crossmember for under the engine & modify trans crossmember. I also had to raise the body slightly.

Great Idea. I am a big fan of the Duramax. Is that an LLY engine?

Re: '82 Duramax diesel conversion

It depends on how you mount the engine. With mine, I barely got by with lifting the body 1-1/4".

Re: '82 Duramax diesel conversion

Made a little progress this weekend.

Added some MegaMat to quiet the noise. It really hurt to cover my nice paint....

Got the firewall plate permanently installed.

Added a dash picture... although not finished yet. I still have to modify the radio opening & modify the opening for the column.
