84 with 84K

Hey guys and gals,

I spend most of my time in the 67-72 area, but I was looking on CL this evening and spotted a 84 with 84K orig miles. This truck has no options, 4.1L 3 speed on column. By the pics, the interior is flawless, has new tires, the body looks excellent. Owner told me body has a few minor rust spots over rear wheels and maybe in the rockers. I will probably go look at the truck tomorrow evening. He is asking 3250. Is this too much for this truck? I really love the 3 speed column shift trucks and have been looking for one for a while. I don't mind spending a little more than what it's worth, but I would'nt want to spend a lot more.

Thanks, advice would be very appreciated,
Randy

Re: 84 with 84K

the pics are nice but dont show the areas of worry on these trucks which is the cab corners, rockkers front cab support and floor pan. It does appear to be a very clean truck, but im still not feeling the love for it at that price. I live in an area where pickups dont go for a ton of money but still

Re: 84 with 84K

If it's as clean as it looks, it would probably be sold in less than a day here. I would see if he would take some close-up pics of the areas Bob mentioned to send to you, plus on the bed behind the wheel well.

I didn't realize GM made a 3 on the column after the 67-72 models. My 68 was originally on the column and it was a lot of fun to drive.

Re: 84 with 84K

My experience has been that minor rust spots over rear wheels are a sure sign of serious problems underneath.

Rust repairs in that area can be costly unless you have the ability to do it yourself.

I agree with this statement. Even if you can repair it yourself, it is very difficult to repair without warping the bedsides and totally ruining them.

Re: 84 with 84K

Well guys, I went and looked at the truck. It does have all the typical rust problems, rockers, cab corners, kick panels, inner fenders, but it's not that noticable. It is through rust which means new panels. Floorboard is good with the exception of some rust around the kick panels. The interior is as good as the pictures shows, almost like new. This truck had no options, except gauges. No radio, no steering, no power brakes. I told him could not give him what he was asking and he came down to 2500. I then offered him 2250 and he will let me know tomorrow. If I buy it, I will post pics soon. I hope I will be able to find a power steering pump and brackets for a 250.

Thanks for the support,
Randy
