Vinyl Paint

Anyone ever use vinyl paint on the bench seat my upolstery is fine but its a funky green. I'm wondering how this stuff works, I mean will it start cracking and peeling right away just wanted to here some feedback if you've used it before. Thanks

I used some back in the 60's. I spray dyed a factory vinyl seat black. It turned out looking perfect and looked that way when I sold the car much later. I also sprayed fabric dye on a 54 Chevy original cloth headliner and it turned out like crap. Made the cloth all hard and crunchy effectively ruining the headliner. Of course I was an ignorant kid and probably did a lousy job.

In the 80's I bought the leather interior out of a Jaguar XJ12L and got the tour of their new car repair operation. They were set up right behind the local GM factory, and whenever a new car got the wrong seat or door panel, etc - these guys were commissioned to dye the vinyl to match the rest of the interior, and these were brand new cars. The finished results were indistinguishable from the unrepaired areas. Good prep seems to be the critical factor in making sure the job holds up. Back then I believe Mar Hyde was the main brand. I'm not sure what's popular now.

Just apply in a well ventilated area - the stuff really stinks. As a teenager I did mine in the basement and ran everybody out of the house for several hours.

That's the stuff I used on a headliner in the 70's.
