Short "Rust Bullet" report
Hey guys.. I am working section by section, to get my blazer protected from the salt this winter.. as from the looks of the underside - it has never seen any..
The product I decided on was rust bullet. I did both rear inner fender areas last night and today. I can't say how it will hold up in the future, but it looks great now. I watched thier videos and it looked like a good product, but I wanted to know how it worked for the weekend warrior, not the professional body shop. There claim is that is soaks into the metal and, scientifically.. I don't know about that. I WILL say that once this stuff starts to dry it shrinks down into every pore. Seriously. After 2 coates and some drying time, the under side of the truck looked more like it was dipped in the stuff that brushed on. It almost acts like shrinkwrap! You can spray this stuff too, but I didn't want it drifting all around the house... I dropped 2 coats of flat black on top of it and it looks fantastic. I also noticed that the left over stuff that dried in the bucket was flexible yet hard on the surface.... Time will tell if it holds onto the truck this winter... I will keep you posted. |

Re: Short "Rust Bullet" report
Any idea as to how it would hold up under UV?
Can it be used as a finish coat or do you need to top coat it with paint? If you want to make your 'report' even more of a report, give us some idea of cost, availability, application, clean up...etc. Last edited by vtblazer; 11-08-2009 at 07:55 AM. |

Re: Short "Rust Bullet" report
As far as a top coat it does not need one per the instructions... but it is an aluminum silver color on its own. I just sprayed cheap flat black over it to tone it down.
Summit racing sells it in many different amounts. PURCHASE NITRILE GLOVES FOR THE APPLICATION !! Since this stuff dehydrates it will dissolve the oil on your skin and stick tight for 3-4 days.. once its allowed to dry on your skin it will not come off - unless you grind off the skin its holding onto !! Here is a pic of one of my fender wells finished. Now keep in mind I am not going for a show truck kind of thing. I am literally laying in the garage on my back cleaning this thing up and appyling the Rust BUllet myself to protect and preserve a truck that has never seen salt yet.. and it will see it here in a month or 2.. Again.. so far this stuff works amazing.. only time will tell how winter treats it.. and the best part is that it claims it need very little surface prep.. I believe that to be true to this point as this pic doesn't do justice to how this stuff shrinks into every nook and cranny !! |

Re: Short "Rust Bullet" report
Well, so far the rust bullet appears to be holding out well. This is hands down the worst winter we have had here in at least 20 years. The blacktop is white from salt residue as it has snowed many times. Keep in mind this is my daily driver ! This looks to be a very good test for this stuff in the real world.. when spring gets here and I give the truck a really good once over, I will let you know how Rust Bullet has faired. I hope it is soon.. I am sick of this nasty weather !

Re: Short "Rust Bullet" report
How clean did you have the surface before you applied it?
