65 Long Step Worth the NEW price?

Here it is again, this time with his new price.

With title and an engine that is for all practical purposes blown.

Price $800.00

He asked me to make an offer I went to $400.00 and the $800.00 was his reply.


Now I am not a 4-5-6 guy but a 67-72 guy, however I realize this truck has some pretty cool aspectes to it. The Patina is the biggest asset and the 95%rust free cab and clip. (hood rust and one small area on LH rocker)

But is a C20 with 292 and 4 speed and no, I mean zero other options, worth up to 800 bucks w/out and engine?

if this was a C10, short bed I'd have jumped on it already. I guess what i'm asking is if I get this thing get it running what do I have? What is the market like for 65 C20's with I6 and 4 speeds?

So, I'm at 400 he is at 800 wonder if he will split the middle with me and go 600? Worth the try all he can say is no, right?

NO! That guy is full of sh!t. Its a 3/4 long bed shell, not woth much at all. I wouldn't pay anymore than $200. What the hell is with "patina"? I cant stand that word now. Instead of saying the paint has gone to sh!t he says "Its got a nice patina".

Hmmmmmmmmm! Thats one way to think about it. Not too sure I dont disgree with you on some of your post. I've been trying to talk myself into it all day now.

I don't think I would budge with the $400. I paid $500 for a rust free C 20 and it is a fleetside. The head was missing but was at the machine shop and i didn't feel like paying $300 to get it back seeing I had a perfectly good 5.7 sitting on an engine stand.

thanks guys! I just sent him an email telling him that my offer stands.

If it works out fine then I have another truck to go in line wiht the rest of my projects.

I had to remind myself that I was looking for a running truck when I first saw these and not another project.

However, since My 400 was already out there I kept it open. I dont think he will take it and if he does not I'm fine with it. I'll take the money and get a part for my 67 GMC.

If it is what you want/like I might be tempted, the no rust is a great money saving factor, the hood looks good.. but if you really want a fleet you might want to wait, or a short bed.
alot of people change the suspension , and the 1/2 ton 5 lug stuff will bolt up to either a 3/4 or 1/2... I would probably put a v8 in it anyway, and finding one with a good v8 is not as common as one with a 6.
If you want to turn/flip it I would say no, but if you want a good starting point for a long step I would say maybe...
show up with a trailer , offer him 6 100$ bills ...see what he does

A good, rust-free, dent-free 4-5-6 Chevy cab shell will bring over $800.00, in the midwest, maybe not in other areas of the country, but here, no problem. At a glance, I see $500.00-$600.00 in parts, but if you are looking for a project, maybe it is not the one for you. In my opinion, a good cab is the most important component to begin a project with. A cab is the most expensive to repair and the most involved, whereas, most all other parts are still out there for a reasonable price for good/decent, used sheet metal.

Thanks again for the info. I'm more fond of the 67-72's as you can see my my signature. But love all years of Chevy trucks. I have a budy of that is a 4-5-6 fan. SO I know a little about them. I offered this to him first and he is w/out funds. So I thought, if it was a running 3/4 ton I could use it right away and convert it to 1/2 ton later. Ive got some extra 67-72 suspensino parts to donate to the cause.

Getting caught up in the excitement of the search and negotiations is easy to do and I was getting caught up.

I was not goign to flip it as I have storage and dont mind a little work.

The Cab is in GREAT shape, the truck body is in great shape, just that its not something I HAVE TO HAVE. so I can walk if he says no.

I'll have to wait and see.

Well Bad news... he is stuck on 800 and wont budge an inch. Guess we both dug our heals in.

Looks like I'm heading back to the 67-72 section for the time beeing.
