Speedo cable keeps breaking

Has any one had problems out of a 700r4 np 208 speedo cable. mine has broke 4 times now and i put it back in the factory holders. seems like every 6 mounths it breaks. any ideas would help.

Are you using any type of lube? Use a light coat of lithium grease. Where is it breaking?

is it a cheap chinese reporduction?
or is your truck really realllllly fast?

check it, make sure it dont got any hard bends.

i lubed it with the hole pack of clear greas it came with. I followed the factory routing on the cable it has the bends it came with i beleve. and my burb would like to think it is fast.. come to think of it i did race a avalance today..... but it broke like 30 mins later. and i hit a top speed of maybe 55 mph in said race.

are you buying the same cable over and over again?
i have a feeling it's a cheap cable...
is it really close to your exhaust?
i had one break due to it laying on my pipes, that or a cheap cable ....

only one got melted on pipe. all the other ones broke at the turn to go over trans it makes like a 100 degree turn in like 2.5 feet. but that is how it was from the factory. i put it in the little holder things.

2 of them were used.....cheap actually cost more then the new ones ha ha
2 were new... pepboys the only one they sell.

what is a good brand? where can you get it.

mines run up the side in a "big arc" there's no tight bends,to the frame and then it's tucked against the firewall until it's ready to enter through.

i diddnt get an lmc one i bought mine at napa

sounds about the same path as mine. just went to auto zone and got price for new one. 10 bucks. does not sound like a winner. i am about to install my trans pan today so i will look to see if it is really broken again. bet it is. thanks.

Pick you up a Lokar and be done with it. You can justify the cost of one vs. 15 of the cheepies.

Just pertaining to the 700R4 I have the Lokar column shift assembly, Trans. Dipstick, Speedo Cable and the Throttle (TV) Cable. Can't go wrong with it IMO.

well, i was gonna say to check your engine mounts and tranny mounts, they could be letting the trans move and cause the angles of the cable to change. and it causing it to bend too much and break. but then again, you should be able to feel or hear the ka-clunk!

but yeah, moving that big beast will sure produce some heat out the exhaust, just throw some heat wrap on it when u replace it.

I just replaced my mounts a few weeks ago. Heat is def produeced when i drive it. I am usally not to nice to it.

and about the race i lost due to slow start. i figured we were going to race but did not just want to punc i off the line and look like a dork. so i took off slow and he punched it and then i did. i slowly gaind on him. i started out at his tailgate and ended up by last door. think i could have taken him tho.
