Stock gas cap question

I just have the hole in the cab where the stock gas filler went....

Do I just need the grommet and the fuel cap to fill that in and go back to the stock look?

I did not fill it in and weld it .......

Re: Stock gas cap question

Depending on what you desire, the stock filler neck, cap and grommet will certainly work and plug the hole. With the tank out of the cab at least it won't smell like gas anymore. If you don't want to do welding but want the hole eliminated, here's the way I filled mine:

Re: Stock gas cap question

Just throwing this out here so please don't laugh me off the website but I am contemplating putting a cb radio in my truck (it's retro old school) and was planning to use the following antennae mount at that location. I believe it is just the right size to bolt through the existing fuel filler hole without any modifications.

10-4 there good buddy?

I would use a section of the filler tube to screw the cap on. Cut down and welded up with a plate. Great place to store or hide something.
Like keys to the truck
No just joking but I would use the tube

Why not?! Seems like it would fit well. I like things that are practical and look purposeful. Better than filling the gas hole and drilling new ones somewhere else.

Re: Stock gas cap question

Not that it could EVER happen....but if you leave the hole there, it had better be plugged, because someday, somebody will fill that cab up with gasoline if given half a chance. Pump jockey, your kid, you kid's friend, next owner, whatever. Ask the new oil delivery driver who filled up someone's basement with about a foot of heating oil, if it's possible.

Re: Stock gas cap question

So I really need the grommet, and AND the filler neck. That is what the cap attaches too?

Re: Stock gas cap question

Correct. The filler neck slides into the grommet and the cap attaches to the neck. You might want to consider sliding a piece of hose over the neck from inside and gear clamping it in place. Otherwise the neck and cap can simply be pulled out of the grommet. I like what K-TEN said, I'd plug the neck first to prevent a well meaning but uneducated person from pumping gas into your cab.
