4L60E question
Does anyone know if a newer model 4L60e fit our engines? I know that the tranny is electric and has all the sensors and stuff but I would change that out and convert it to a manual shift if need be. I've got a lead on a new one but it came out of a 2000? Silverado. I'm just wanting to know about the bolt pattern compared to ours.

4L60E is identical to 700R4 but elctric. 4L80E is the beefy version of the 4L60.

Right I knew that but I was wondering about the newer style blocks and their bolt pattern.

I just put together a 2002 model small block 350ci and it had the same bolt pattern for the trans that a 700r4 takes (and 4L60&80),

didn't know how technical he wanted so i posted a quick spit of info. yes the new vortec motors have the same transmission bolt patterns as gen1 and gen2 blocks. hte motors themselves are quite different and won't change anything over to my knowledge

This may sound stupid and hope B doesn't mind me adding a question in here, but what makes the TH350 and TH400 "different animals"? I've rebuilt a couple TH350's but never a TH400, so this is a legit question I'm not trying to be a smarta$$. I guess I never really looked around to find out what the difference really was.

Matt, the internals of the TH400 are more heavy duty, and the parts will not interchange.

(I'm a newbie at engine/trans)how would you hook up the electrics for an automatic? Would it be a straight forward plug and play? I was thinking of going with aftermarket tilt w/ column shifter. (I have a lead on a 95 LT1 with a 4L60E)

jay-dawg, with a 4L60E, you have to run a computer (which you need for the LT1's injection setup anyways) because the trans is entirely electronic.

Just get a 4L60 instead of the 4L60E. Same as a TH700 but with some reliability tweaks.

Actually if I got that I would have changed it to manual shift or even grab a 700r4 case and install the good guts into a old case. Maybe this would work as well? Maybe I can get it cheap enough and swap it for a built 700r4

brandon, swaping 4L60E guts wont work in a 4L60/700R4 case. the earlier model trans is hydrualically controlled, where the newer trans the shifts are controlled electronically.
