71/72 inner grill paint what have you guys used?
I am getting ready to paint my trucks inner grill, The PO painted it Black and I want to paint it back to the original color. "Buying a new one is not an option" I am curious what others have used in a rattle can to match the original color. What is the right color? Please post some pictures paint brands & paint codes. Heres a picture of what mine looks like now. On right I tried Dupli-Color High Performance Wheel Coating WP 101 Silver. On the left I tried some Rust-Oleum High Heat Bar-B-Que Grill Paint I had lying around 7716 Heat Resistant Silver.
Thanks Pablo Board member DT1 used Nissan Titan Radiant Silver and clear coat it looks good.

I always use the Silver Wheel Spray bomb on my inner grilles. It might have a pinch of metallic in it, but I like the way it pops the inner grilles slightly. Trevor

Dove gray krylon would be a really really close match to original. They sprayed the back of Chevelle SS wheels with Dove Gray. You could also try Argent silver. Trevor

I would tend to agree. I think gray would be better than silver. Rattle can silver can look really cheap and cheesy. The grill really shouldn't be metallic looking.

I tried a few different paints on an old grille I had before I did the one on the '71 4x4. I ended up using Eastwoods Silver Cad paint. I was happy with the way it turned out. LockDoc

Any automotive silver will work well. Rattle can silver is not silver. You can get great durability by using a two stage paint. I used Nissan Titan Radiant Silver because I had some leftover from my "Other Truck". A base coat with a clear coat will last for quite a while. I know it's an expensive way to go, with a compressor, dryer, spray gun, Etc., but IMHO it should last as long as everything that's getting done right. If you're on a budget, you can always use a quality "Rattle Can" epoxy paint. The silvers look more professional. I've used them and have had surprisingly good results.

Krylon's "Dull Aluminum" is the closest I've found to the original argent silver on GM grills, rally wheels, etc. It's tough to find in stores, but you can get it directly on the 'net at about $3.15 a can when buying a case.
