LT1 / 4L60E Swap?
Has anyone put a thread together for doing a LT1 / 4L60E swap into their pickup?

Re: LT1 / 4L60E Swap?
If you find one let me know otherwise I'll have to do one once I finish up my LT1 swap. If everything goes as planned I hope to start the truck this weekend.

Re: LT1 / 4L60E Swap?
I plan on doing a suspension conversion this summer, but Im also going to be looking for a Caprice to rob a motor and transmission out of. Just more curious how everyone elses swaps went or are going. Any info will help prepare me for the adventure.

There is a member here that is doing a LT1/4L60E swap, I just can't think of who it is. Have you looked thru the 'Projects and Builds' section? Might be in there.

Re: LT1 / 4L60E Swap?
I found a 1994 Camaro Z28 with a good core motor for $650. The guy drove it at 270 degrees and burnt up the heads. Now there is water in the oil. Sounds like a blown head gasket to me. Does anything think this is worth buying to start my conversion with?

Re: LT1 / 4L60E Swap?
I got the 90k mile caprice LT1 currently in my impala for 600 bucks. I'd be worried about the excessive heat on the aluminum camaro heads. Who knows what that does to them. For the record I often spin my junkyard block to 6k with the manual set up. I scored a complete wrecked impala ss for 500 and am using that engine/trans in my truck. Along with a host of other pieces. (new leather seats for my car wasn't bad either.)
I guess I'm saying I'd avoid the 650 possible rebuild canidate for one that was a known runner when pulled preferably by me or someone I know. - Brian

Re: LT1 / 4L60E Swap?
I am in the middle of an LT1/turbo400 swap in my 64. Not sure how much different the 4L60E is form a 400. the rear cross member would be the concern I would think.

Re: LT1 / 4L60E Swap?
That might not be a bad deal if it's the whole car for $650 and if the trans is good. That way you'd have the whole harness, PCM, trans, rear disc brakes. etc. I would say you will want to have the heads checked over and tested for cracks. That could have affected the rings as well.

Re: LT1 / 4L60E Swap?
I'm afraid of anything thats gotten too hot....I wouldnt buy something with a leaky radiator, for that matter. I'd be afraid of the block; I got a cracked 400 before. Ran great until it was hot and puked water out the exhaust and made a milkshake in the oil pan. Jus' sayin'
