My 1972 K5 project

I picked this up about a month ago. I haven't done a lot to it as of yet. I started working on cleaning up the body thus far by welding up all of the holes and etc. It has a dent that I need to pull out and then some dings that I will have to work with as well. Here it is the day I got it.

Here is the first day of work my buddy and I did on the passenger side and the the results.

Solid project to start with.

I wish GM would have just used double sided tape to hold the trim on - it could have saved several fenders, doors, and beds...

Right now it's just a green self etching primer from Checker which actually works for me since I'm doing all of this body work. It makes it a lot easier to fix afterwords. Once I'm all done with the work I want to paint it a metallic/gunmetal grey color, I'm still looking around for the exact color I want. Something similar to this pic I found on cardomain.

No kidding. That alone would have cut the welds I had to do in half!

Thanks. I felt the same way after I found that. I was torn between a few colors and then I came across that pic and ruled all of them out in favor of the gunmetal gray. I just read your build thread, great rides! I'd love to have that collection of vehicles.

Man I wish.. I bought some patch panels for the lower inner door area that I need to weld in. I've been swamped at work and moving on top of it so not much progress as of late. I totally forgot about that banner too LOL! It came with the truck when I bought it. I'm kind of anti-stickers so I pulled them all off after bringing it home. The wife wasn't all that keen on it anyways haha.

Nothing really noteworthy to show in regards to pictures but I have finally been working on my rig. I ended up with a fuel fire awhile back and found out that there was a leak in the gasket between the carb and the manifold. Fortunately I had an extinguisher not too far away and killed it quick - no damage to the motor. Since then, I have gotten a new carb, new air cleaner, plugs, etc. Installed them all and fired the truck up again last week. We ran a clear fuel filter so I could see the gas quality which came with some more bad news - rusted out gas tank. So I'm about to buy a poly tank and install that and my rig will be back on the road!

The only visual thing I can see that is different from these pic is that I have since put on H2 wheels with 37 inch tires.

I hate to say it but alot of people don't use the glass fuel filters because they can crack and cause a fire....

I have H2 wheels to put on my truck as well, so post a pic when you get the chance...

Will do. I have heard about the cracking before actually. I went with it more for temporary purposes so I can get a good look at the gas as it had been sitting for some time. Thanks for the heads up though!

I still want some Method Racing Double Standard wheels, but that will come later when I have some "extra" cash....

Thanks guys. I have a six inch lift and the tires are 37s. I needed new tires with my last set and found a set of five of these on another forum for $300 and couldn't pass it up.
