Well....I'm an idiot.

And I need some help. I cannot seem to find a vin number on my truck. I found a small tag on the diver's side kick panel, but it is way too faded and wore down to make out. I can't find anything on the dash or firewall where they would always be on the late 60's and early 70's cars I have worked on. Can anyone help me find a vin number on this thing? It's my only way to get paperwork started.

by your display pic im guessing ypur truck is a 65. if thats the case 1 tag is on the drivers kick panel. the other should be in the door jam on the top side. just open the door and look up. if i remember right that plate only has the vin.

Fryer1979... don't be so hard on yourself. I had the same problem when I was searching for my '65. And there the VIN was... on a plate attached to the cab, top of the door jamb, on the drivers side.

Yep Me too. I found the stamp on the front drivers side frame rail. Then one day I was messing around uner the dash, laying upside down, and noticed the tag on the door frame.

Same for my 66 Burb, top of door jam on the drivers side.

Re: Well....I'm an idiot.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure there wasn't any tag on the door frame, but it may have been that I just didn't look up. I'll stop by the shop on my way home tonight and take a look. I know the tag on the driver's kick panel is way too far gone to be usefull though.

DPowers, thanks for the link. That should help me find the number if the door tag really is gone.

Re: Well....I'm an idiot.

Alright, so I went back out to the shop this morning, opened the driver's door of the truck, looked up.....AND THERE IT WAS! Wow, I feel smart. To give myself some credit, someone had primered over the door jams and the tag was well hidden. But it's pretty neat that once I knew were to look, I found it. Thanks guys.
