led tail lights

Trying to do my homework on LED tail lights. The tail light seems pretty stright fowrword. But this is what the company that is selling the light assy says, "Due to the low amp draw and no heat produced by LED lights, some of the time a stock 522 flasher will not cycle/flash. We highly recommend our no load electronic flasher to solve this problem". Does this sound right and is there any other hidden items i may need? Thank you for your help on this..

http://gemstreetrods.com/led_tail_lights.htm this is the company i was going to get the convertion from..

Re: led tail lights

that is true. on class 8 trucks with led lights they won't work with a thermal flasher. they can be purchaced anywhere though, (not auto zone- your 60-66 didn't come with electronic as oem so buba's computer wont give you one) just ask for electronic insted of thermal.

Re: led tail lights

What they is saying is correct, if all the lights in the circuit are LEDs, there isn't enough amperage draw to cause a conventional flasher to operate. If you leave the incandescent parking light bulbs in place, they "may" draw enough juice to cause the tail lights to flash correctly (or may not). Ron Francis, Painless, and non-street rod suppliers that carry LED bulbs on the internet offer the electronic flashers.

Re: led tail lights

you can also wire resistors in the circuits to create a load so a thermal flasher will flash

Re: led tail lights

Might sound like a dumb question but is that located on the stock circuit board on a 62? I have a led plug in type bulbs for the rear lights and they blink fine but they don't work on the front flashers and that's with the stock flasher. Also be careful with the lens type led lights I bought some from Classic Industries and they did not fit. The worst part about it was the guy gave me a really hard time because I have 55 step side tail lights on a 62 and he says they don't return anything that doesn't fit if it has been installed on a customized vehicle.

Re: led tail lights

I will confirm this info.....I'm using LED tail lite bulbs and they will not flash because my hood is off right now. Worked just fine with the stock bulbs in the front turn signals.
