Re: door handle ? help

Its easier to get at if you take the door latch off (3 phillips screws and may have to hit screwdriver with a hammer while turning) first then I just use a flathead screwdriver to push the clip down some.

To re-install you put the clip in place and the rod will slide in but not out if that makes sense.

Re: door handle ? help

'86 is probably the plastic one? Isn't it? If so, it just rotates toward the inside of the door. It snaps around the rod, so it takes some prying.

Unless it's the metal clip? I don't remember? It has been a long time since I had one apart and I have worked on hundreds of cars/trucks, so it's hard to keep them straight.

If it's the metal one:
It just slides upward, but you have to lift the "tab" out of the hole first. It has a "barb" like a fishhook, just slide something thin under it and the whole clip will push like it is going to slide off of the end. It will probably fall down into the door when you pull the rod out, be prepared to dig it out.
To put it back together, you slide the clip back onto the handle before putting it back in the door. Then the rod just pushes in and "catches"
