anyone know a source or repro body mount brackets?
Howdy folks,
Just got my cab yanked on Friday and took a look at the carnage sitting under the body bushings. Sure enough, 3 out of the 4 cab brackets are rusted pretty bad and 2 of the bed mounts are not looking too good. Anyone know of a source for these brackets? I looked at lmc and a few other places and no one seems to offer these. Any other sources i should look up? Thanks for any tips, Mike |

I haven't looked at mine that close but looks like you could get some steel channel, square tube or even plate and weld up a replacement. Looks like the part that is riveted to the frame is pretty solid so you could make a template from cardboard and replace the rusted part.

Re: anyone know a source or repro body mount brackets?
the frame itself is actually in reasonable condition, the only cancer i found is on top of the rear springs where the geniuses of engineering decided to sandwich several pieces together where mud and salt gets kicked up and apparently not seam seal or paint it. oh well, that's why they make new eighth inch plate. I have to take the crossmember out and see what is going on in that spot.
As far as fabbing up a set goes, i would have no problem with that if i had a good set to copy. I am not sure exactly where the hole is located on the mounting surface of the front pieces since the holes are long gone. If i can't find a set of repros for a good price(oh yeah, budget beater, can't spend 200 clams on just these mounts) i guess i'll have to make some with trial and error or buy a whole frame since generally no one wants to part them out. The tear jerker here is that i already had to replace the cab with one with easier rot to fix and new fenders, plus the bed might not be repairable. i'd really like the at least keep the frame if i can since it was my grandfather's truck and was a neat part of my childhood. Better keep looking. maybe someone will chime in with a collision damage frame with good brackets for cheap thanks for your replies. Mike |

I would watch the parts board as these tend to come up. Or you can become a subscribing member for $25 and post a want-to-buy ad. I am sure with all the folks on the board that part out trucks someone has a set.

how about starting a new thread asking for measurements?
I'm sure someone here has a cab off and is willing to throw a tape at it for you. |

Re: anyone know a source or repro body mount brackets?
i yanked all the mounts off the frame to take a better look at them. i am thinking i might just take a stab at cutting the tops off and replacing them with new plate. it just seemed like a real headache when they were still riveted down, but i'll try this first since when i can handle them easily it isn't as bad. Thanks for the help everyone!

Re: anyone know a source or repro body mount brackets?
Well, i cut the mounts all apart and i am feeling good about it so far. I found a guy in my area with a nice rot free leaf spring frame with a dana 60 still in it but i just don't have the space and i really need the money for other parts. Here's the progress so far..
On the front mounts, i measured 3.25 inches back off the outside edge and sawed a straight line starting with a hacksaw and finishing with the sawzall till i just broke through. Then, for both front and back mounts, i clamped a piece of aluminum to the sides i was keeping with about a single blade gap and sawzalled the rotten tops off. I found some 3/16" plate in the scrap bin that i am going to cut a little wider than original to provide a lip to weld to on the outsides of the mounts. After i get those pieces cuts i am going to drill out all holes to 7/16" to clean up and round them out then bolt the mount pieces back in place, line the new top plates up, and tack them in place before removing them to weld up and paint. All i need to do now is find out where the center of the bushing holes are in relation to the surface of the frame where the mounts bolt on and i can holesaw them before tacking them in place. Here are a few pictures. |

Re: anyone know a source or repro body mount brackets?
Guys are giving away entire rust free frames out here in So Cal or just scrapping them. They all probably have rust free brackets. Cruise the CL ads here and ask if any of them will remove the brackets you need and ship them to you. I wish I had the room to store these and send the needed stuff out East but just don't have the room or the time.
