Best drop equipment
I'm sure opinions vary, but I'd like some feedback on the best way to drop an 86 C10. I'm interested in the resulting ride and performance. Please include manufacturer and approx cost if possible. Thanks!

Not completely sure yet how low to go. I don't want to be scraping on the speed humps and sidewalk when I pull into the driveway. I guess I need to look at the posted pictures some more and get a general idea.

Not sure about the current tire/wheel size. I do know that they are too fat to use after a drop. I'll need some new meats before I can drop it. That's a whole new decision!

Well, let me put in my nickels worth.
When I bought my truck the PO had extended the stock shackles as long as he could and used a torch on the front coils, to drop it. I don't have a clue what it was. Anyway, I quickly put in some 2" coils and a shackle and hanger kit for a 2/4 drop. Was satisfied for awhile, but soon wanted a bit more. So, I replaced the 2" coils for 2.5 spindles and 1.5 coils up front, and 4" drop leafs and shackles out back. I soon tired of the 1" or so rake I had, with the 4/5 drop. So now I have a 5" flip kit and shackles for 4/6, which is a level stance. So after all this, I don't think you will ever really be satisfied. Once you start, you can't quit. This is the very reason you see so many going with bags. We have a few here with a 5/7 drop and some with 6/8. I vote for 4/6 myself. Much lower and you're going to kill your lower control arms all the time.

Start with a set of drop spindles and flip your rearend. Then if you want to go farther you can reuse your initial investment. Cost around $400 if you do yourself.

I'de also recommend going 4/6". Purchase from DJM, Belltech, Ground Force, Western Chassis (Not to be confused with Chassis Tech), or Eibach and you'll be happy. Doetsch Tech makes great shock absorbers too.

I have been told that the 3" drop spindles sold by DJM and some others will cause the lower control arms to scrape on the wheel if you have 15" wheels, and that the 2.5 inch spindles don't scrape. This can be fixed by grinding part of the control arm off, which I am not very comfortable with. Of course I have also been told that they don't scrape by a couple of people, so your mileage may vary.

15 inch wheels will scrape with the DJM 3 inch spindle. My stock rims scraped. Actually it wasn't the control arm that they scraped on....it was the top of the brake caliper on the inside of the wheel. The 20s work just fine.

Gary, that looks like a good stance to me. What exactly did you use for lowering equip, what wheels do you have and what's the back spacing?
