As exotic hard woods are very expensive, you can however have them cut to 1/4 thick, plain off 1/4inch of your maple or whatever and glue the exotic to the boards. All of the hardware will cover any of the seams and it looks nice. I have done this for a guy here locally

I found this pic which I am guessing is another Forum members truck (wish I could give them credit) I saved it a few years ago because I liked it.
I have also thought about Oak with the polished rails and a Dark walnut Stain. I think Ebony stain might be just to much black. check out min wax colors for some more ideas. http://www.minwax.com/products/stain...sh.html#Colors
