'72 Jimmy 2wd.
I've been wanting a convertible and found this Jimmy 2wd. 350/350, ps, pb, ugly add on air. It's pretty wavy and has rusty floors but from 25ft. away it doesn't look bad. Seems to run, drive and stop pretty good, lots of rattles & sqeaks though. I'm not going to pull it all to pieces for now. I want to keep it in the shop with the top off and drive it evenings when it's cooler. I want to lower it some, change the wheels and DRIVE IT. Maybe buy some new bumpers and I need a back seat of some kind. Has headers and dual exh. and sounds pretty good. It had been driven very little in the last 10yrs. and seems to run better the more I drive it. Fresh gas and advancing the timing helped it a lot.

Re: '72 Jimmy 2wd.
I've got a neighbor interested my '67 project truck(s). I need some shop space before I take the top off. I'm going to study the site and get some options for lowering and tire and wheel sizes. Maybe some info on a back seat too.

Re: '72 Jimmy 2wd.
You've got the right idea - drive it! Changing out the front bumper and some different rims will be a great addition.

Pull the top and enjoy! You live in the sunny part of the country, so go for it! Wheels and rear seats can come after you pop the top. There is nothing like driving a classic convertible truck!

Welcome from a fellow 72 Jimmy 2wd owner.
Be smart... call Early Classic and definately go with their airbag system for the rear. The adjustability is worth the price and will reap huge dividends in usability. |

Re: '72 Jimmy 2wd.
Looks pretty solid? How are the rocker/tortion boxes under it? Something to consider before pulling the top off...
If they're in decent shape, pull the top off, look for a rear seat out of a 4x4 or a burb that's being parted, chrome front and rear sport bumpers, new wheels, a drop, and have fun It's always more fun spending someone else's money

Re: '72 Jimmy 2wd.
I'm 'bout afraid to look under it........ looked at some pretty grizzly torsion box/rocker pictures in some build threads. I couldn't get under it before I bought it... have some health problems. I'm hoping my other truck is sold and gone and I'll be able to get it on the lift in a few days. I think it's always been a central Fl. veh. so chances are 50/50 it'll be bad rusty. I see there's a wealth of info on this site......... GOOD THING!, I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions. I do have a set of 8" 5 lug truck rally wheels that'll improve it's looks some. WAY TOO HOT to mess with any of it today.

Re: '72 Jimmy 2wd.
I see that it has the spare tire brackets on the back is that possibly a converted 4wd? Nice ride none the less and get that top pulled and cruise it..

Re: '72 Jimmy 2wd.
I did manage to get it on the lift, I don't see any evidence of it having been a 4x4. Does the VIN# indicate 2 or 4wd.? Underneath, the driver's side rocker is plastered up and funny shaped and the torque box has some rust holes in it. I can see some fiberglass cloth through the holes like somebody glassed inside the box before they plastered the rocker. The pass. side looks better--- no rust holes in that torque box. The door sills look pretty good on both sides. I'll take some pictures. I had NO idea there was so many places to trap water and rust in these things. All of the body mounts I saw were intact---- the rubber donuts were shot but the sheetmetal brackets looked ok. I'm pretty hopeful I can get away with enjoying this thing without a bunch of body work.

Re: '72 Jimmy 2wd.
The first couple digits will indicate if it was a 4x4. If the VIN has KE or KS in it, then it was a 4x4. if it is CE or CS, then it was an original 2wd.

Re: '72 Jimmy 2wd.
Thanks, I found that LMC decoder in the search. VIN starts out TCE182F.. looks like GMC, 2wd, V8, 3900-5800-GVW, JIMMY, '72, Flint. Got a copy of a Fl. title from '81 that shows previous reg. in NY. Also got a bundle of reciepts from an engine rebuild at 55,800mi---- shows 72,000 now. Apparently non original engine, paperwork says V0915PHM, I don't seem to be smart enough to ID it on MORTEC. I think I got one of the orig. wheel/tire/hubcap/beauty ring still fastened to the swing out spare carrier--- was that factory? Was there a roll bar option? I'm not a "matching numbers" guy, just curious. It's also got some kind of soft top folded up in the back that I haven't looked at yet.

Re: '72 Jimmy 2wd.
Quote:
Looks like the engine decodes as: V = Flint Engine Plant 09 = September 15 = 15th PHM = Can't seem to find this one just yet. There is a PH, which is a 78 305. This is the Engine suffix Code. If this could possibly be the numbers matching motor, the last part of the VIN would be stamped next to this number on the front pad of the motor. See the example picture:
