FINALLY!-factory GM 15x8 Steel Wheel

I am very excited to say that I just got two 15x8 - 6 lug - factory GM steel wheels. They were off of a CUCV M1009 military blazer. Very hard to find, most of them got scrapped. I am going to put them on the back of my 66 to fill the rear out.

I bought 4 new for my 62 around 1985, if I only knew then.

Re: FINALLY!-factory GM 15x8 Steel Wheel

I had a pair of those on my 1960 back in the early 90's. Picked them up at a wholesale wheel supplier in San Jose, CA. There were rows of stacks of them and weren't considered anything special, other than being a desirable 8" width. I think I paid $35 for the pair, which seemed very high at the time. Junk yards usually charged $5 per wheel, or $10 for mags. When I redrilled to 5 lug I just gave them away. I assumed there was an endless supply being late model wheels, never imagined they would become so hard to find.

Re: FINALLY!-factory GM 15x8 Steel Wheel

I didn't know these were hard to find. I have a pair available for free if someone wants them, the other two can be had once I redrill the rear axles. That will be in the fall or winter, too much fun driving it right now. PM if interested.

Re: FINALLY!-factory GM 15x8 Steel Wheel

I bought one from a military blazer recently from a guy in Kansas. Paid over $100 for one shipped to me...guess what-it didn't fit my 6 lugs on my 66 because the center hole was too small. See if they fit...

Re: FINALLY!-factory GM 15x8 Steel Wheel

I mocked them up today. Perfect fit on the rear! Now I just need to decide what tire size to run? I have 235/75/15 on all four right now. I could just run those again, just on a 8" rim or go 215/75 front 235 rear or 235 front 255 rear.... decisions, decisions....

Input?

Wheel Vintiques has always had them.

Re: FINALLY!-factory GM 15x8 Steel Wheel

RedNose- wheel vintiques makes a 15x8 6 lug smoothie but not with the same centers. You cannot run the 10 1/8" OE hubcaps on those.

Re: FINALLY!-factory GM 15x8 Steel Wheel

I searched for months for those. I found 4 really nice ones at a 4x4 junkyard. Guy said he had them on a rack for 12 years..
Made me chuck out 150 bucks for 4 wheels..

I promptly gave away 2 on a 69 short fleet.

The last 2 are on my current 65 short step. And Im about to take them off because with 275/60's, they are too wide...

when i get new tires for my '66, i plan on running a 215/75 front and 235/75 rear using a 7" front & 8" rear wheel (5 lug)...but i plan to run a stock looking thin whitewall, so i can't go any bigger on the rear...on my old '93 C-1500, i ran a 225/70 & 235/60 combo with BFG's & 7" steelies

These are BFG radial TAs, 275/60/15 on stock steel 15x8s..

They fit under the 69 fleet bed, but on my 65 step, the rear fender lip comes right down onto the tire.

Thats with jeep TJ rear coils on it, so it lowered 4" or so.

Anyone know the backspacing of these rims? And do they fit under a fleetside bed if lowered? Thanks in advance!
