Boyds rear mounted tank
I sent some specs to Dave and he built me a nice rear mounted tank. Still working out some fitment issues but you get the idea.

Re: Boyds rear mounted tank
I guess that solves the "where do I put the filler?" question. What are your plans with this truck? I assume you don't plan on having a hitch back there...or will it still fit?

Really nice. How many gallons does it hold?

Re: Boyds rear mounted tank
Thanks all.
I have no plans for a hitch or towing but depending on what type of hitch you used, it may still fit. It's about 18 gallons. |

Re: Boyds rear mounted tank
I had Dave make one a few years ago, that's the first attempt at a rear filler though, nice work. It look like the filler will reduce the amount of capactiy a little though.
I think you could still run a regular hitch with that setup, no hidden hitch though... does it drain to the front?

Re: Boyds rear mounted tank
Do you see any ideas on how to make the tank a larger capacity, possibly 25 gals? I have been looking at various ideas over the years, and I would prefer something a bit bigger than 18 gals, especially since V8's don't get the best mpg.
Any ideas or thoughts? Adam |

Re: Boyds rear mounted tank
Depends on what else you may be doing with your truck. The tank could easily be a couple of inches deeper (lower) and a few inches longer (front to rear).

How are you planning on attaching the tank? A rear tank is near the top of my list and I'm really interested in your setup since the fill is really straightforward. (or straight backward in this case ![]()

Re: Boyds rear mounted tank
I was just checking in to see how this conversion was working out for you? I was going to take some measurements in the follow week to see how much of a larger tank you could get by with. My truck has a drop of 4/6, so I need to see how far I can go.
With '73 and up era trucks, some suburbans had a 25 gal tank that might fit. I need to take some measurements, but maybe your tank builder could make an even bigger tank. With most stock 350's making 10-14mpg, I want to get the biggest tank available. Adam |

aboyer, I have no idea how it works yet. It fabbed up ok but I wish I would have gone with about 12* on the filler though instead of the 15* that I went with because I think I'm going to end up dropping the tank down just a little to get the filler in the right spot in the license plate opening. I kind of pushed this to the side for a while so I could get the sheetmetal work done on my cab. Hopefully I'll finish the fab work by the end of this month. We'll see. |
