Did I get a good deal?
I bought this '53 Chevy 5 window the other day for $7500 bucks. I would really like your opinion to confirm whether or not I got a good deal. I seem to think I got it for a steal, but my brother seems to think we got ripped. Now, the paint is actually awful. There is bondo all over the place and a few places where the paint even dripped. The body is nowhere near smooth, lots of dips all over but from a distance it looks pretty nice regardless. Here's are the specs of the truck:
- motor is a 305 v8 edelbrock and has 65k on it - converted to automatic 700r - new tires and chrome rims with 200 miles only - rotors are 10 inch - disc brakes all around off a 85 vette - camaro front end clip - all chrome is like new except for the grille - new battery and alternator - 30 gallon tank moved to the rear - no dings or dents inside of truck - new paint inside and out about 2 to 4 months old - truck is not lowered - need to replace the side windows - front and back bumpers are brand new - front grill is decent - has horn, alarm and only the headlights work so far - speedometer works and is new - flowmaster mufflers, dual - air shocks - tilt wheel After all that I'm pretty sure I got a good deal What do you think? Re: Did I get a good deal?
looks great to me... value is a funny thing. Some people might say you overpaid. Others might say you got a steal. If you like the truck and are happy, thats all that matters.
I would have purchased it for that price as well! Nice find! |

Re: Did I get a good deal?
Said perfectly............ to me..... it's a steal, but I don't mind doing bodywork, I have a soft spot for these trucks, the modifications if done correctly and time involved aren't cheap, hell, you can drive it and it looks good and there's still room for improvement for you to put your own effort and time into it to give you that pride when showing off the final product. Nice truck How can you not like a 5 window?

Thanks Tantrum. That's how I feel too. How do you expect to buy a 57 year old car and not do any work to it?

I agree. Nice truck. I personally like the AD's lowered at least a little, but that thing looks good with those wheels and a stock stance.

Re: Did I get a good deal?
Looks good from the pics. Must be the wheel and tires but it looks lower than mine which needs to come down a little. If your looking to resell the truck than value is important if not than no big deal if you like what you got and can afford it.

Re: Did I get a good deal?
Corvette's would not have had 10 inch rotors. Maybe S-10 rotors. Vette's had much larger brakes. Overall looks OK, as long as there isn't too much hidden under the paint, like rust.

Re: Did I get a good deal?
My thought too, looks like someone just got tired of doing finish bodywork (I can relate, I'm there on my truck) and decided to paint it and sell it. Looks like a little hammer and dolly work and block sanding would clean it up. But if its hiding rust then its another issue. Still if that is all you have to deal with and clip/power train and interior was done right, then its a good deal. Guys are buying them for half that, then starting on the body work, clipping, engine upgrades, etc. For now drive and enjoy it as a 20 footer.

If you're happy, then
Truck looks good. And it sounds like you see past the shinny paint. |

Re: Did I get a good deal?
All the time we should not be practical their are even some cases where we should think for our satisfaction and betterment,,,
You are happy with what you paid and are much satisfied with the truck you purchased , so forget the rest and make the best fun out of it ,,, good deal ya |

Re: Did I get a good deal?
I like your truck. I am curious what size rims are on your baby. I am trying to figure out what size to put on mine. To me, the size on your truck look about perfect.
