73-80 vs 81-91 body mount differences
I did a search and didn't find what I was looking for.
I am just starting my 2wd blazer project. I found a '78 2wd with some rust issues and a 1988 4wd that has a great body. I am going to put the '88 body on the '78 frame. Can someone tell me specifically what the differences are between the body mounts, and which ones I should use for my project. Thanks in advance, and I will start a build thread soon. Mike |

Re: 73-80 vs 81-91 body mount differences
In 1979 chevy changed the blazer frames to give more rear leg room. The back seat platform on 73-78 raises just behind the front seat. 79-91 rear platform raises a foot or so behind the front seat...

Re: 73-80 vs 81-91 body mount differences
Actually the rear floor change happened with the 78 model. That's why I was sure the 88 body would fit the 78 chassis. The 78-91 bodies will not fit on the 77 and prior frame.
I just wasn't sure about the body mount differences. The rubber mount design changed with the '81 body. Last edited by Mr.Chevy4x4; 01-14-2010 at 03:47 PM. |

I put a '87 4x4 body onto '73 2wd frame and besides the floor differences which you don't have to deal with I don't think I ran into any other problems swapping it over. I used body mounts made for the '87.

Re: 73-80 vs 81-91 body mount differences
Bringing one back from the dead...
I'm with ECU pirate - if I decide to swap my straight '77 body onto a '79 frame, what problems will I run into? Looks like the other way around would give problems with frame being in the way of the footwell, but other than a lack of support under the seats, any other issues I might run into? |

Re: 73-80 vs 81-91 body mount differences
I'll fill you guys in on this in a couple of weeks. We bought a 78' k5 with a shot body, and found a newer 80's body in a yard. We are going to bolt up the 78 parts on the blazer before paint. Trevor
