? regarding rear 5" drop coil - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hello all, I am fairly new to this forum and have to post my first thread.
Today I installed new 5" drop coil springs and new shocks I bought from Brothers on my 72 2wd step side. My question is this... Why did it only drop the truck 3" on one side and 2.5" on the other? (should get 5" lower, right). I mounted the springs first then the shocks,Could I have stretched them when I jacked up the truck to mount the shocks? I have over 4" of travel between the axle and frame and the springs measure around 8" tall mounted. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

What was the condition of the springs that you replaced? If they were the original OEM springs, being 40 yrs old, they will sag over time/use. The 5" drop is based on the original ride height.

did you install an adjustable panhard bar? did you install new trailing arm bushings and panhard bar bushings?

Should you install new panhard bar and trailing arm bushing when you lower a truck? Should you do control arm bushing if you add dropped spindles and front springs?

panhard is needed to correctly center rearend, yes you can crabwalk down the road off kilter if you want// to work on suspensions CHEAP CHEAP and ignor worn out 40year old parts aint bright and doesnt enhance your ride

The rear pre-measurements from the ground to the lower edge of the fenders were... LR=33 3/4" & RR=33 1/2"
The post-measurements were LR=31 1/4" & 30 1/2".
The truck already has an adjustable panhard bar, but havent adjusted it yet. I also have 2 1/2" drop spindles with 1" drop coils to add to the front... have not installed yet.
I also have 235x75x15 tires. A comparison of other members' hieght with the same 5" drop coils could help.
