Question drive shaft question

Ok I pulled the trigger and ordered a 700R-4 for the 66(SWB). Can anyone tell me what the drive shaft length is with a 350 that is mounted in the stock location(back two frame holes with stock motor mounts). I’ll be home in less than two months and would like to have everything I need there. I’ll have 23 days of leave and would like to do the conversion over that time. It also has the stock 12 bolt in the rear. Any info on this would be a great help and thank you…

One more question, the kit I ordered comes with a vacuum lock up kit (mostly stock 350). Does this work well or would it be better to get an electrical lock up kit?

This is all I have for tranny specs.
It's from TCI's website.

Maybe you can use these numbers to determine how much shorter your driveshaft needs to be.

I personally would not rely on specs for that dim, I would wait till you have everything in place and then get your dim's and go down and have your's cut to length. Just my 2 cents.

dont know if it helps but got my 65 chevy truck with a 350 with a 700r4 tranny behind it the tranny was smoked. i put a turbo 350 tranny with the longer out put shaft 9",and didnt have to do anything to the drive line there was only about a 1/8 to a 1/4 diffrence in tranny lenghts,when you get back might wanna check to see what lenght 350 tranny you have! hope this might help!

Keith,I question the dimensions shown for the 2004r. It shows distance from center of rear mount bolts to end of tranny to be 5/16 in and that cannot be. I have a 2004r in the garage and just did a rough measurement. I got ~27 in to the mount center and ~27 15/16 for total length.FWIW

Install, measure, then have it shortened. Turnaround when I had mine done was less than 24 hours from the local drive line shop.

I agree with sshockr. You really need to setup and measure, then have a local shop shorten it and balance it- they may want your yokes/u joints to balance as an assembly.

My shop in Denton, TX (Inland Truck Parts) did mine in 4 hours !!
