4x4 options ?'s

Ok, this will probably make me sound stupid, but it's something i have been wondering about.

I have June 97 issue of 4-wheel & off-road that lists 73-87 engine, trans, t-case, and axle options. According to that article the two following trucks don't exist.

Mid 70's 1/2 ton snb 4x4 with a 454. Not sure about the year, trans, or t-case since it's been a few years since i saw the truck. The article says a 454 was never an option for a 1/2 or even a 3/4 ton 4x4.

79 1/2 ton swb with 400/400/203. The article lists the 400ci in 1/2 tons for only 75-76. It also says you couldn't get a th400 in a 1/2 ton.

From what the owners of these trucks said and from what i saw, both trucks looked like they had never been touched. They looked completely original. So is the article wrong, and these trucks are original or is it right and the trucks aren't original.

As far as I know that article is correct in at least one aspect. I've never seen a factory 454 in any of the 4x4 pickups, suburbans or crew cabs (six pack). I've seen plenty of converted rigs. Kinda funny seeing a 4 door, 1 ton, dual wheeled crew cab with a 350 in it.

4x4 never had BBC's and 4x2's only had them from 73-80. 400's were offered from 75-80. TH400 was offered at the same time but it only came behind a 400 SBC and was only availible in 1/2T til 80 when the 400 SBC was dropped. The 400/TH400 was only offered in 4x4's and not in 4x2's as far as I know. 3/4T trucks with the SBC had the TH350, unless it was after 77 which the 400/TH400 was offered. The NP203 was offered from 74-79 which was full time which I don't think was an option with the TH400.

Edit: forgot to say all BBC's had the TH400... and they all were 1/2T C10's

The 396 and 402 BB were available in the 68-72 trucks, but again never with 4x4. They could be had with a 3/4 ton I think. I know you're talkin about 73-87, but I had to chime in.
