V8 into'53 with stock steering box
Using 55-56 log style manifolds I put a 283 into my '53 5 window and kept the stock steering box.

Re: V8 into'53 with stock steering box
Looking good.
Just how close are the manifold and steering? From the picture its easy to see they are close, but in two-dimensions its hard to know if its too close. If you don't have half an inch all around the steering box you'll probably have the exhaust against the steering box anytime you work the motor hard. You'll also need to keep an eye on the steering box lube because it will be much warmer than it should be.

Re: V8 into'53 with stock steering box
Steve, It's not as tight a fit as it appears to be in the pics. I can slide my index finger between the manifold and steering box at it's closest point. I'm routing the exhaust on the drivers side around the front of the tubular cross member away from the steering box. Exhaust pics to follow soon. Pipes will be ready 9/10. I made templates using 1/2" conduit and a conduit bender. Really anxious to fire this thing up.

That's on the tight side, but 1/2-inch is what I've heard is minimum and if your fingers are as fat as mine you've got that or more.
