700R4 Lockup Switch Wiring
Got this off our site and it looks good to me. Anyone have any comments. I'm just going to run it off the toggle and not worry about the brake cancel or vacumn switch so I'm just going with 12 volts (using the 12 volt line from the old vacumn switch run to the toggle and then to the trans). The TV cable is already hooked up as i never took it loose when pulling the engine and trans together from the donor truck. Just one question on the grounds "D" & "B" on the diagram. Would I need both? Where should they be grounded? to the body, frame or elsewhere? Comments please

The diagram as drawn allows the converter to lock in 4th gear only, which seems to be the most popular hookup with rodders, although it isn't how stockers do it.
Internally, the solenoid is connected across A and B. The 4th gear pressure switch connects B to D only when the transmission shifts to 4th gear. The ground on D completes the solenoid power circuit. D can be connected to any known good ground on the body, frame or engine. Body is probably easiest. Not sure I understand your question about grounding both B and D. If you ground B, the converter will lock in all gears except 1st and reverse, which is the stock setup. You didn't ask, but I most strongly disagree with the writer's claim in (5) that unlocking the converter AIDS engine braking under closed throttle conditions. Anyone who has ever driven a car or truck with manual lockup control will know that the exact opposite is true. Ray Last edited by raycow; 09-18-2010 at 06:59 PM. |

4th is the only gear i'm looking for lockup in. Ray, you're the man, I wished you lived closer, I owe you a few steak dinners, that's for sure. You've been and still are a great help on this truck. I've been a tri five guy for many years, just sold my last 55 belair a couple months back, but the trucks are alot different. Your help has been greatly appreciated. thanks again, Bill

Bill, you're embarrassing me. The only reason I know what I know is that I have been working on bikes, cars, and trucks since I was a kid - and I'm OLD! If I was able to help, then I'm glad.

4 th gear only power to a side and ground d side. It's that simple!
