Swap questions before spending $
I'm getting ready to purchase a l92 and 6l80E to install into my 1967 c10. I have read through all of the forum, but I'm still confused.
1. Are there engine mounts that work better then others? For example being able to run the AC compressor in the stock location? 2. Which header would be best with the above recommended mounts? 3. Will I have to modify the firewall or can I remove the trans tunnel for a 4x4 one to make the transmission work? 4. Lastly the engine and trans I'm looking at is complete with factoring wiring harness, who is best to go to, to get it reworked to work with my truck and run A/C and electric fans? Sorry guys I have a million more questions but thought I would start with these so I know what I'm getting myself into. Thanks Last edited by Vandals909; 09-18-2010 at 04:25 PM. |

Re: Swap questions before spending $
1) I dont have AC on mine so I dont know.
2) right now the Doug Thorley swap headers are the only option unless you want to cut frame and bend up the tubes of new headers, there is possibility that DT is going to coming out with a larger tube header (1 5/8" now). 3) Why do you need to modify your firewall? 4) I use Current Performance out of FL for the wiring harnesses. Re: Swap questions before spending $
I changed my word on the firewall. I wanted to know if I will need to modify anything to fit the larger 6l80e?
I have seen current performance for awhile. I was thinking about using then about 8 years ago. I'll have to send them an email for a price quote to modify the existing harness. I thought I saw a post were DT was making the headers already? Anyone know what size the Street and Performance headers are? Anyone ever use them? Thanks for the reply. This looking for an answer on the MOTOR MOUNT question. Last edited by Vandals909; 09-18-2010 at 04:31 PM. |

Re: Swap questions before spending $
The ECE mounts look great and would keep your motor forward, allowing more room for that larger trans. They also allow for 2 height settings...which may or may not work for the a/c.
That said...there are other mounts/brackets available...some universal, other specific to the vehicle.

Re: Swap questions before spending $
Still cant find a definite answer if stock A/C location can be kept with any of these aftermarket motor mounts.
Can anyone who has installed maybe the ECE mounts chime in? Thanks! |

Re: Swap questions before spending $
I was able to use the stock a/c compressor on my 6.0 install. However, I didn't complete the install with the ECE mounts, I sold them because engine set so far forward not allowing me to run the LS fan and factory shroud, so I didn't hook up the a/c lines to the compressor so I cant absolutly verify if it can be done.

Good Luck on your build, I have the same set up going in my 85. I can tell you from first hand experience that the MAST truck moves.... Even faster now that they changed it over to a LS3 with spray.

Re: Swap questions before spending $
I also strongly recommend Current Performance out of Florida. he know his stuff! i would highly encourage you to ditch the oem wire harness and just go with a new one from current performance. although the can modify the oem harness (witch is what i had done) its not worth the savings over a new one.
I really really really wish i would have just waited a little longer to just buy a "new one" I too have spent many hours with the search feature of our site looking for a motor mount adapter that will let you run the a/c compressor in the stock location but nothing yet. i know some one here has the awnser is just a mater of asking the right person

Re: Swap questions before spending $
I sent John at speartech my original harness, he modified it, added performance tune and matched speedo to rear gear and tire size, removed rear o2s vats egr etc. About 5 wires to hook up and done.

Re: Swap questions before spending $
Is the only option to make your own motor mounts to get the A/C to fit in the stock location without cutting the frame?

Re: Swap questions before spending $
Does anyone have experience with running either one of those setup?
I remember reading another members post were he used a street and performance a/c relocation bracket and he has been through 3 belts. He was looking for a different setup |

Re: Swap questions before spending $
I saw on LS1Tech.com alot of guys have the Kwickperformance ac bracket, however you need to change to a Sanden compressor. Those guys seem to really like that bracket setup and it isnt as expensive as S&P.
