What is this pipe?

Was looking through my engine and found a pipe I don't know the purpose of. It's just a metal pipe that runs from my exhaust manifolds to the air snorkel, pipe is the red circle and where it hooks into the snorkel is where the arrow is....what is it for? and why does my exhaust want to be routed into my air supply?

Re: What is this pipe?

Heat riser for cold start. Does not suck in exhaust. It should have a heat sheild it draws fresh air over hot manifolds and into intake.........I think....

Re: What is this pipe?

Does this really effect the engines performance a lot in cold weather? Just wondering because if I switch to a open element air cleaner will I need to rig this to route the hot air into the new cleaner?

Re: What is this pipe?

How cold are we talkin? Like -15 or 30 degress. I dont have one i just have reg open air type and as long as the choke works it starts. The coldest i have tryed is 30-35 deg or so.

Re: What is this pipe?

I Just started mine in -20F the other day. I have an open element air filter too.

As long as you have a proper choke set up you shouldn't have any problems.

Re: What is this pipe?

Then I don't think I will need it....I don't remember a - temperature in Texas in as long as I can remember.....was this just a stock thing? Because I'm just wondering why they had that in there when it was shipped to Texas where we really don't need it...unless it was just a standard thing.

Re: What is this pipe?

Just map quested you and i would say throw it in trash. If carb is adjusted right should have no problems. Sure it is an emissions joke.

Re: What is this pipe?

liven in texas you shouldnt need it
what its idea was to help keep the carb from develope fuel dropout(freezing gas) and fouling plugs at low temp.

how it works is it puts warm air down through the carb keeping it from freezing as your going down the road once the engine has warmed up the flap in you aircleaner closes off that inlet and opens up for cooler air and to gain better fuel econmy

Re: What is this pipe?

I wouldn't throw it in the trash. It's probably a part someone in Cali needs. Ebay that sucker.
