Kingpin Angle
Anyone know the specification for the correct kingpin angle for the straight axle on a '59 apache????
I finally got my axle off and checked it over since left wheel was leaning outward approx. a 1/2". It seems to be slightly off compared with left side however, the left side does not appear that it sat flat with frame at leaf spring mount. So, it seems it might be all messed up. Hopefully I can find an old timer that might be able to right it, or at least get it close before I remount and or replace everything (kingpins, bearings, new mono-leafs, disc brakes etc.) Thanks. |

Re: Kingpin Angle
Bring it to a spring shop. They should be able to tell you if its bent and straighten it if it is.

Re: Kingpin Angle
I spoke with sacramento spring and they can probably right it with jacks & chains etc. but kind of wanted to know exactly what angle the kingpin should be.

Re: Kingpin Angle
They would be able to tell you. They need to know when they do it

Re: Kingpin Angle
6.16° to 8.16°
This seems like an awfully wide range, but that's what is in the shop manual. I suspect it is what they will allow to get the camber within spec. If I were doing it, I would let the shop have the spindles too. Ray

Re: Kingpin Angle
Thanks for the info.
I will take the spindles too. One of the kingpins was a little tough to drive out but it may have been that I didn't get the swaging completely removed. Probably need to have that checked so new pins going in smoothly. |
