I was wondering if this was the same build I walked in on... lol

The dash looks great by the way, I'll have to put up some pics, but the outside of the truck is half sanded down to the metal, I'll post 'em when its all done being painted.

Should have given me a call for help with the 700r4, i'm getting pretty good at dropping it and putting it back in, and I get to do it all by myself, lucky me...

Thanks, Jeff. I think it is 68-72 GTO. My buddy Pete buys and sells classic cars, and I store a lot of my parts in a corner of his warehouse.

Same one, Tim. Glad to hear the dash worked out for you. We actually got the engine and trans in the truck that night, it's just taken me this long to get it going.

Glad to hear they are reconfiguring the kit for the 73-87 trucks. My uncle installed one in his 85, and said it was a PITA. He said if he would have known he would have got their universal kit, and used it. He likes the Vintage Air products, just wasn't happy with the 73-87 kit. Hopefull this will help everyone out in the end. I know you will be ecstatic with it.

John, VA just released their Gen IV kit for the 67-72 trucks, and it looks pretty sweet. I am really looking forward to it.

I'm painting the truck and have most of it done except for a few centimeters around the glass trim and I need new trim anyway... I'm ok with taping it off and painting anyway but I'd like to take it out and replace the trim. The front window is cracked so I'm not sure if its even possible to do that without replacing the glass but I don't have the money to have it professionally done right now and since im in the middle of painting it, it would be best to do it now.

Tonight's progress. Interior is now charcoal! I still need to drill holes for the lower attachment of the seat belts, but I went ahead and set them in place anyhow. I think it came out well, for having less that $100 wrapped up in it.

It's a lot of hassle to go through to not replace the glass. It can be done, but I honestly got lazy and had the glass guy swap windshields from my parts truck. There is a crack at teh right side, but the original one was delaminating pretty good.

Thanks, ya'll. Joe, we use Sherwin Williams products (really, it's not house paint. I swear!) here, and there were some components of the interior dye that they gave us when they installed the paint system here last year. There is a dryer and flattening agent that was used with the toners on our mixing bank. It's a lot different process that I used last time I dyed anything, it's more like paint. We'll see how it wears. Looks good now, though.

Looks awesome Jon, is really starting to all pop together for you! I am actually very jealous of that truck, keep your eyes on it always.

The biggest reason I did not go with SW paint, was just like you said, I could imagine all the times I'd hear "you're putting house paint on my car?". I grew up on PPG and just went with it, even though it is probably one of the most expensive.

SW has actually outperformed PPG all around. Coming up in the mid 90's, I wouldn't paint a wheelbarrow with it. I actually started out using DuPont, mostly Imron (Peterbilt shop, and the DuPont jobber was the best in town). It has come a long ways. SW has a really short bake (10 min), and a primer that dries in less than 10 minutes in the open air and dries glossy, so it has a built in guide coat. That was the wildest thing to me; during the first demo all of the primer looked wet, and they were sanding it. WTF? If you aren't used to it, it's a trip. We also had some adhesion problems with PPG on urethane bumpers, haven't had one recheck on bumpers with SW.

We went with a 1 year contract with SW, and it up, so everyone has been back doing demos. There looks to be some really cool stuff on the horizon with solvent, too.

Sadly, I am still about 3 years out from finishing my contract with PPG and my jobber. Yeah I could buy it out, but that would suck for me.
SW demo'd a little for us, but I still am far more comfortable with PPG. Since we've been open I've had to get them to warranty one thing, that's all so far, *knock on wood*. That's the beauty of using PPG start to finish, at least for me, they can not blame it on anything but their product if we have a failure.

You're probably using water though in TX, right?

Their warranty is only as good as your rep. I had PPG fail on a truck hood and fenders. The rep used every excuse he could find to deny, so it was taken to the regional rep. After going up the ladder several steps, the end result was a denied claim.

True. Unfortunately (for us, I guess) a lot of times we will just handle it. Bad word of mouth seems to travel a lot faster and farther than the good.

I haven't. There was a bumper company that would do the bumpers for me (I had them done on my '79, and Scot had these done by them a few years ago), but they got bought out a few months back, and chroming has ceased.

No, we're still shooting solvent. We've looked at water a few times, but the additional investment in airflow is a downer right now. With the low VOC solvent that should be coming out soon, we wouldn't have to switch to water to see the benefits, and wouldn't have to add the fans and all required with water, either. Word is everyone is working on lower VOC solvent, but no one has it nailed down yet.
