Primer color
if you're gonna leave your truck primered for a while... what color do you choose?

If it were me, I would use a black primer.

I saw one yesterday that looked like dark dark bronze or brown.... almost black

If I was going with one of those colors I would use grey primer.

My buddy's Dad has an old Ford truck. They were able to 'dye' the primer to an almost torquoise color, which was original for that truck. Looks good! I believe they were able to dye it at the paint shop.

definitely use Epoxy to seal up metal from moisture and color choice would be gray considering your final color choices.

You can buy a primer ( many companys make it so pick your flavor and go from there) that you can mix both ways one is a primer only ( easier to sand) the other way it is a true sealer ( will take more elbow grease when you block it) Iused it on my truck for the insides of areas that I will not be painting and you will never see anyways.
Standard primer will rust ... only making more work later. |

Normally I would say that dark brown Primer if I was going to drive it but after trying to block sand it I would not use it again....it clogs sand paper pretty bad and just seems to not work as well as Grey...so I would use Grey

If you are leaving it primer and it will see any weather, use a 2K urethane primer. It seals well and is tintable to your color. If you are on a tigh budget (and who isn't these days) don't be afraid of the store brand. We use alot of Parts Master primers now in our hobby shop. Also, please note that all laquer based primers will allow moisture to pass and will rust under the primer. Alot of people think that the red primer doesn't allow this to happen, but it does. The rust just happens to match the color of the primer.
