Shock/coilover question
I was looking at the Helix website, and when you go thru the options when building your crossmember, you have the option of Coil-overs, or shock thru coil.....
what is the difference? I thought that is was basically the same thing....

On some coilovers you can adjust the ride hieght. The shock thru the coil can't be. Otherwise I think they would act the same.

A "coil-over" shock is the actual suspension and shock "combined" into one unit. The small diameter spring is connected to the moving end of the shock. It provides more adjustability of ride height that way.
A "shock through coil" is a bigger spring and the entire shock slides up inside it. S-10 trucks are like this. The shock has a stud style top mount, and a T-bar style lower. It slides up through the lower control arm, inside the coil, where-as the full sized trucks the shock is externally mounted. It would make a big difference in how the mounts are constructed on the cross member.
