Question for owners of Early Classic 4x6 lowering kit
Has anyone found it necessary to reduce the thickness of the rear rubber bump stop, to give the rear more travel on a 66.
Thanks |

Re: Question for owners of Early Classic 4x6 lowering kit
Well... Im running 7" in the rear.... Your going to want to do a c-notch with a pancake bump stop. Ive got like 4.5" of travel. I have yet to hit in the rear nor do I think I ever will.

Re: Question for owners of Early Classic 4x6 lowering kit
I am running the ECE 4/6 kit without a c-notch, I did trim the rear bump stops to about 1/2" from the bottom of the frame rail. Almost never hits them, but the most I haul is a couple hundred pounds.

Re: Question for owners of Early Classic 4x6 lowering kit
Do you guys have a rear gas tank? That's the only weight that I will be hauling. The reason I ask the question now is because the frame and suspension is all painted and rebuilt and if I had to do a C notich this would be the time ( I really dont want to). I was told by EC a C notich was not necessary.
Thanks for the info. |

Re: Question for owners of Early Classic 4x6 lowering kit
I just ordered the tank off Ebay it's the same one Lakeroadster used in he's build thread. I liked it because it's only 7.5" deep. Do you ever regret not doing a C notch.

Re: Question for owners of Early Classic 4x6 lowering kit
no regrets here, i dont haul anything in my bed though. if your thinking about the C notch like you said now is the time to do it. the cpp kit is only about 100 clams. also there is a good article in the Feb 2011 classic truck mag on this product.

Re: Question for owners of Early Classic 4x6 lowering kit
I would install the CPP c-notch for sure!!!!! One of these days you will be cruisin down the freeway with a full tank of gas and you will hit a dip or bump that will knock that cold beer right out of your hand. All kidding aside, 20 gallons of gas is 160lbs. and its on the back side of the axle, you will think something broke. Sean

Re: Question for owners of Early Classic 4x6 lowering kit
With a 6" drop, c-sections are not necessary. I believe that tank that Lakeroadster is using was 16gals or ~130# of weight when full. It won't be a problem.
That being said, if you do opt for a c-notch, I would recommend the CPP heavy-duty c-notch (3/8" thich steel) or Porterbuilts notch above all others because of the amount of strength lost when cutting the frame rail in half.

Re: Question for owners of Early Classic 4x6 lowering kit
When I dropped my 62 6 in the back I bottomed out but only on one particular bump and I don't think I had put my gas tank under the bed yet. I had removed my bump stops. But the 62 has a little bit of a different setup.

Re: Question for owners of Early Classic 4x6 lowering kit
I trimmed the bump stops and measured the travel I have 3.5" (no bed or gas tank). I sat my 250lb butt on the end of the frame rails and she didn't go down much. So I thought this might be ok (I wonder how stiff this truck is going to ride). That's my question to you guy's.
Yesterday I was able to roll her out of the shop alot of time and work went into that damn frame. I hope the gas tank will be here soon I'm ready to install it. I ordered motor mounts from Brothers two weeks ago they say maybe next week. I will start tearing down the big block in the meantime. |

Re: Question for owners of Early Classic 4x6 lowering kit
I just looked at my reciept and I have a 5" rear drop spring and no c-notch. It rides terrible in the back. The springs are way too tight for me. So bad I'm thinking of putting coilovers on custom mounts. That way I can try different spring rates and adjust the height as I see fit. I have a huge sway bar back there too, so maybe I'll take that off first. My concern when I put the springs back there was that I wouldn't be able to haul anything. Now I just want a better ride. I also used to have 170# of railroad track back there, so I got a little spoiled to the cushioned ride.
