turn signal is being problematic....

I just rewired my turnsignal harness as a temp job till I do it for real. The previous owner did quite a ghetto job of rewiring it and I sought to correct it so I actually had working signals. My problem lies inside the steering column I believe. The right signal works perfectly fine, locks in annd flashes. The left doesn't flash when it locks, however if I add a slight bit of downward pressure to the arm it flashes.

Is there an adjustment I can do to fix this or do I need to replace the harness/components in the column?

My 64 was doing the same thing when i bought the truck. A small plastic tab inside had broken off the cam plate inside the column. I ended up buying a new Turn Signal switch w/Harness and it works like new now. You may be able to get away with just replacing the cam plate, which is $8...I bought the whole assembly and paid about $50.

You have to pull the wheel to get to it correct?

Yes you will need to pull the steering wheel off. There has been several
threads on the safe way to do this, so you don't end up missing a couple
of teeth.

I will look up those threads later. I will probably just replace the whole turn signal assembly if I have to pull the wheel....at that point why not
