Re: 5/7 drop
I have a 5/6.5 drop....real close to what you are seeking. Look at the last page of my build thread for pics. I have a C-notch on order, as there is only about 1" of clearance between the rear axle and the frame.

Re: 5/7 drop
I tried the 3.5/5 drop, and never got the truck to hook at the track. Mind you, I was trying to run low to mid 5's in the 1/8 mile. The spring rate was to high to transfer weight from the front, and the rear spring rate did not allow proper anti-squat to work properly. I ended up using Moroso trick springs and QA1 stocket star R series front shocks, and Koni double adjustable coil-overs, and an anti-rollbar from Bickel in the rear. Good luck, let me know if I can help you in any way. I should have an front suspension at market in the next couple months that will help considerably with weight, geometry, etc. Thanks Paul

Re: 5/7 drop
I'm running a 4 1/2 f and 6 1/2 r cpp springs right now and pulled consitant low 1.6 and a hand full of high 1.5 60' on drag radials. I'm gonna change that setup though as soon as i can was fighting traction problems all of the time out.

Re: 5/7 drop
Keep in mind everyone that replied is probably running trailing arm rear suspension and your running leaf springs. A big difference between the two.

Re: 5/7 drop
Sorry, I did not realize what year truck, and with what rear suspension we were talking about here. The 4-link will work well for you. I know a lot of S10 guys are running Cal-tracs with success for stock type suspension set-ups. I have never seen anyone run Cal-tracs on full size trucks. I seem to always assume we are talking about trailing arm rear suspension. LOL. Paul

Re: 5/7 drop
There's tons of guys down here in the RGV with dropped trucks that seem to hook just fine. These guys are low, like 5/7 and lower. Them RGV trucks are some of the quickest in the state. They have lots of videos on youtube and on the Edinburg track website.

Re: 5/7 drop
My 73 works decent foot braked 1.67 60's. It wanted a light duty 3 leaf pack. the 7 leaf heavy half set was junk.

Re: 5/7 drop
I went from the 7 leaf to the light duty 3 leaf pack and both shocks pointing forward at the same time... im not sure which made the biggest change but Cal tracs recomends the lightest leaf pack you need to hold up the vehicle.

Re: 5/7 drop
Calvert makes the caltracs in a flipped version. I'm told that they also sell their split monoleaf setup for these trucks too.

Why do people still think squating is better for hooking?? Quote:
Right and why is that? Depending on where you instant center is set, you could be inducing a lot of antisquat. With the stored energy of the light leafs, antisquat puts the tire in to the ground, adding force on that tire. What hole are you running the caltracs in?
