Ok I may need some serious thinkers..

Can a guy put one of the newer 6L80E transmissions behind a Gen III, running cable throttle, on an 02 computer? Is it possible? The first thing I can think of is that the computer just would not be compatible, apples to oranges. But you can virtually tune these computers to do anything you want right? I know the computer would have to be pinned for the different trans but I am not afraid of that. I'm not sure I'm going to do it yet, but if I did find a deal on the 6L80, I would swap it for my 4L65 in a heartbeat. Any thoughts!?

Re: Ok I may need some serious thinkers..

The way I understand it, which could be wrong but on the newer 6speed autos, the PCM doesnt control the trans the TAC module does and the TAC and PCM dance together.

A 2002 PCM wont have the TAC module, you would need to upgrade your DBC to DBW and get the PCM, TAC and BCM (I think) for the year/model of the trans and have them all tuned for each other. Might not be cost effective but would be cool.

Re: Ok I may need some serious thinkers..

The 6 speed has a separate computer, and the pcm for the late motors uses a 58 tooth reluctor input where the 2002 pcm is a 24 tooth. It may be possible to run the 24x motor with the late pcm, But I am not sure if it would still communicate with the trans computer. So I guess my answer is I am not sure of an easy way and there isn't going to be a cost efficient way. Jay

Re: Ok I may need some serious thinkers..

Easiest would be to get the tci or compushift controller to run the 6l80 and let the pcm run the motor.

....or try the M-90 from Mast or some of the other aftermarket ECM's...that have the capability to run a 6 speed.

Keep in mind TCI now sells their own 6 speed and controller.
