Re: 61 GMC Is This Hood Worth Saving
I have one with rust like that in the rear that I am going to fix with parts from a 63 hood, but like said usually the damage is 2x what you can see from the outside
another option is to save the front piece that is spot welded on, and maybe find a good chev hood and change it to a gmc... of course those aren't very easy to find either...

Re: 61 GMC Is This Hood Worth Saving
I am sure the hood could be saved. The fender could for sure. If you aren't ready to tear into it just yet, I would treat it with rust encapsulator and put the emblem back on.

Re: 61 GMC Is This Hood Worth Saving
You could get a pair of the cowl extensions or whatever they're called and use them to patch the sides of the hood since they have the same bodyline and shape.
EDIT: These are what I'm talking about. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1964-...mZ190511118217 Last edited by Chevyman680063; 03-18-2011 at 05:38 AM. |

Re: 61 GMC Is This Hood Worth Saving
I'll look into that. I guess I can see if I can get the cross braces from another hood. I didn't notice on other hoods but do all the hoods have a provision for the washer nossels on hte cross braces? My truck came with a foot powered window washer and I noticed spots where the fitting come through the rear cross member. I thought I had a picture but I can take one to show what I mean.
